Spring reverb: what is the state of affairs in 2023?

I'm a gonna save my Dinerii and use the one in Sunset Studio Reverb. Not Fender 'drippy' but still nice. I wonder if I can talk my Missus into a Deluxe Reverb next year?

I have a few reverb pedals, for spring reverb I liked my Catalinbread Topanga best (but there may be better/cheaper alternatives today). A digital pedal, I keep wondering why such pedals seem ahead of plugins sometimes.
(BTW people on a budget might consider cheap versatile reverbs (EHX, tc electronic...); there are actual spring reverb pedals (Anasound...))
Good reverb pedals - even the digital ones - typically aren't cheap.
Strymon seems to be the highest valued brand for reverb pedals these days, and some of their products are available as plugin.

We gonna start talking spring pedals? I use a Flint in my non-reverb amps. It's pretty good as a spring. The Source Audio Ventris spring can be good too. A buddy of mine has a Surfy Bear that he swears by. Real spring.

For your Fender captures, a good spring reverb would be the cherry on top for that real Fender tone.

I have multiple, including the Arturia one. This one is great also. like the Arturia plugin it has multiple profiles in the one plugin, although they very more significantly in tone, plus it has that Magma saturation going for it.

If it's that important, surely just get a real spring reverb... Or make one just how you like...jens wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 2:41 pm The plugin is most definitely doing more that just convolution, yes.
I'm more of a type 9 guy myself.
I'm pretty sure a good convolution based approach could use different impulses for different volume input and blend between... but if none work for you then just geta real one and use it when playing....

Huh? What has your sentence to do with 2 vs. 3 springs? Why are you quoting this post of mine with a reply like that?
Be that as it may:
As I said in this thread, I have ~10 real spring tanks in various devices and some emulations work just fine for me. However the convolution-based ones don't. But again: there are enough great algo-based ones to chose from (Twangström isn't one of them).I'm pretty sure a good convolution based approach could use different impulses for different volume input and blend between... but if none work for you then just geta real one and use it when playing....
So to reiterate: no, if someone isn't satisfied with the convolution based spring-reverb plugins, to just get a real one is far from being the only good alternative.
And by the way: hardware and plugins have vastly different useage-scenarios, so to replace one with the other has fundamental workflow implications and hence saying "just get a real one" really is a bit of a daft thing to say and even more so when there is more than enough plugin-alternatives.
Several sufficiently good spring-reverb plugins(/modules) haven't even been mentioned yet in this thread.

+1 audiothing's team make all in all a very clever job feature wise on their pluginsWithLibertyMusic wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 3:34 pm Spring reverb is not typically my first reach when looking for reverb, but when I heard AudioThing's Springs I was thoroughly impressed.
by instant comparison see the dual spring reverb from physical audio, that is pure acoustic modeling with this one from audiothing, that gives IMO the best you can get in features for an IR based spring plugin
