Imagine an AI that creates an AI company selling AI plugins. It's a brilliant concept that only AI would be capable of creating. Soon we will be just AI consumers writing on forums created by AI...
But yeah, it's been a great year for blowing large amounts of cash on exciting pieces of software which we will never use.

It does seem a bit like that. The market seems to have catered spectacularly well for every conceivable type of traditional synthesis, and streamlined the interfaces. How else is an audio software company going to create a groundbreaking product other than by harnessing AI, and the consequences of that might involve a diminishing of the need to understand traditional synthesis since the AI will handle that aspect for you. That then removes the need to learn a whole heap of theoretical stuff, and undermines the audio edutainment industry (which is already oversaturated).egbert101 wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 10:23 am Imagine an AI that creates an AI company selling AI plugins. Phoscyon 2 & Arturia Acid V, Savant Audio QRS have me very excited. Even that MA synth that was subscription then suddenly wasn't sounds like a megasynth (though the wavetable/granular crap makes it unappealing to me). Cubase 13 with vocoder and every other DAW had upgrades which many users probably got quite excited about. Even that Lex242 thing was quite exciting (though not to me, but plenty here got their knickers all twisted about it). And then there were 10,783 saturation plugins to f**k up your tracks with. It's pretty exciting to f**k up your tracks isn't it?

TONEX was released in 2023 right? That's going to be an all-time favorite plugin for me. Many other guitar players too. And it was actually something new. A software amp/pedal profiler where users could create their own profiles. That's where TH-U f*cked up IMO; keeping theirs closed. NAM, as a free alternative, is also huge.
There have been a few other really good releases but they're just variations on things we already had like a "another good compressor/EQ/reverb/etc". Nothing particularly Earth shattering with those IMO. Was glad that Orange Vocoder finally got the long-awaited update. Cytomic finally on Apple Silicon is also nice.
It's getting easier not buying plugins because there are so many great ones out there already. That said, I've still bought quite a few in 2023.

UAD native plugins were not tempting for me (were they released this year?, the waves/plugin alliance pricing was this year, though), because I already have most of these plugins whether it's LA2A, 1176 etc
and although some people were asserting UAD's versions are the best, it was not convincing, at least not for me

So much new stuff, so little really 'new'.
For me, the only surprising plugin in 2023 was WA Kickshaper : https://www.waproduction.com/plugins/view/kickshaper
And yeah i know, it's WA Productions. But this one's pretty innovative (see the topic on GS for more info).

I bought it on a whim and I have to say that I was really surprised by the results.
It's one of those plugins that makes it ridiculously easy to dial in your ideal kick sound.
Really impressed with it.
