Vital - Released

At least the point of the “Matt, please let us know what’s going on with Vital” thread on the Vital forum was finally addressed. It might even had been considered productive (and remained unlocked) had Matt posted this reply back in August, when that thread was created.

Yes, yes, I know the white knights will come charging to his defense but to be honest I've lost all respect for him as a developer and most of it for him as a person. Oh well, c'est la vie.![]()

I think no need, he certainly doesn't care very much lol....Teksonik wrote: Fri Nov 03, 2023 6:36 pm ...

Just to summarise, in one side we have one developer who has given 1000s of people an awesome synth, regarder by most as one of the top synth available, for free.
And on the other side we have a few (2?) persons raging because they don't get enough of his attention...
I think the case doesn't need white knights

I think those of us who paid for it, especially the top tier would have a different take than those who use it for free.
I actually wont' be surprised if it turns out that it was giving it for free which might play a part on the length of time taken to fix long standing bugs, some which preceded afaik his announcement about illness in the family.

You are missing the point by a mile. Not everyone got Vital for free. Some of us paid for it and I imagine some people signed up for the subscription plan as well.Jac459 wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 11:52 pmI think no need, he certainly doesn't care very much lol....Teksonik wrote: Fri Nov 03, 2023 6:36 pm ...Yes, yes, I know the white knights will come charging to his defense but to be honest I've lost all respect for him as a developer and most of it for him as a person. I think the case doesn't need white knights. It is more of a no comment case.
At that point he's selling a product and those people become his customers. Then as customers he has an obligation to them just like every other business owner on the planet. I can not possibly explain it any simpler than that......
I've been saying it all along, Vital is not a free synth it's a commercial synth with a free version. In the past I've always encouraged everyone to support the developer by at least purchasing the Plus version in order to encourage further development.

I've always maintained that giving away the almost un-crippled free version was a huge mistake.
I wouldn't be surprised if the free to paid user base ratio is 20 to 1.

But when I bought the pro, knowing the history of the synth, I took it as a donation.
Not an entitlement to complain...
Clearly this synth is built with open source in mind... 80 USD is a way to support. Nothing else.

What’s the “Nothing Else” thing…?
And “Way to support” what actually…?
Just curious to understand your thinking here.

It's either a donation or a purchase contract with obvious consequences as with any business.Jac459 wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 3:32 amWay to support the developer hard work.liquidsound wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 2:11 am What’s the “Nothing Else” thing…?

I see you are probably not a business owner, and your act of superficial generosity gives you the strange idea of telling other paying customer not to request an obvious business transaction's expectation.

Well , being managing director in a bank I am not used to be considered as the generous hippy, that's refreshing...liquidsound wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 3:47 amIt's either a donation or a purchase contract with obvious consequences as with any business.Jac459 wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 3:32 amWay to support the developer hard work.liquidsound wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 2:11 am What’s the “Nothing Else” thing…?

I run an open source project in GitHub (you can google me) and I made a few thousands USD from donations (it wasn't my purpose but it happens)...
I never gave any specific stuffs to the people who sent me money. I am not for sell.
I think the vital guy did it in the same spirit. At one moment he tried to make it a real company but obviously he doesn't give a shit about it and is not interested into animating a community.
That's perfectly fine for me and it was pretty obvious for me when I sent the money that it wouldn't give me a better support.
I am surprised you didn't understood that.
Edit: to be more specific, for me your remark is like these UK people going to French countryside and complaining about roosters, cows and dogs making noise. What the f**k did they expect?
Here it is the same... What the f**k did you expect? Didn't you know where you go? Now you can be like a Karen and say you don't care, a company is a company... But common, if you have the same expectations for a small one-man software company versus say, Microsoft. You are the problem, not vital.

One man software company?
That is not a qualifying reason… Jo (MuLab) IS one man operation and, an extraordinary product with incredible commitment, honesty and full support with a superb line of communication.
So, Vital is a product with roosters, cows and dogs making noise?
And you spent $80 knowing that? You must be from the UK then, as you explained it above
But if Matt has a real family issue, I feel sorry for him and I wish him my best and, of course, never mind my $80.
