If a composition for church organ is a good argument for noone needing lots of instruments to make music, then its equally as good an argument for the pointlessness of whinging about latency in the context of modern VSTs.Bippo wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 1:10 am How many instruments Bach needed to create Toccata and Fugue in D minor?
Should we ditch VST/AAX instruments altogether?

If you want to make music like you could only do, back in the 1970s. There is nothing stopping you, but why make life difficult, when you don't need to, it's 2023.

Irrelevant. You experience more of a delay playing in a room of musicians than from your DAW.
Irrelevant. Don’t use it, if you don’t want it.and quantization.
Irrelevant. Get a few things you need and ignore anything else.Obstacle number two:
Way too many options.
Irrelevant. Most pop music has always sucked. It only seems like more sucks because it’s not made for you. Every generation has been saying exactly this since the beginning of time. You are not some unique character that exists at the end of music.Lets admit it: modern music is mostly rubbish.
Irrelevant. Who cares about you? Each person finds a way to work that is best for them. You have not discovered any universal truth. There is something liberating with knowing that you have a limited amount of options.
I swear I didn't feel so free in a long time.

There’s more time delay from the pipes to the player than from your DAW. (Unless you’re using mastering type plugins that can introduce a lot of delay, which you don’t use during a performance anyway)whyterabbyt wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 1:44 pmIf a composition for church organ is a good argument for noone needing lots of instruments to make music, then its equally as good an argument for the pointlessness of whinging about latency in the context of modern VSTs.Bippo wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 1:10 am How many instruments Bach needed to create Toccata and Fugue in D minor?

I'm sure the amount of data recorded for the production of Dark Side of the Moon is equal to far more than 600GB when digitized at archival quality. That was done at a material cost of many many many times the cost of a hard drive (let's say a 2TB ssd) and while using gear and studios that would still be overpriced for most musicians today without even taking into account inflation.
The answer is no. Give me my prize.
Really though, some people are nervous when presented with choices. if you want to limit yourself to whatever you want to limit yourself to that's up to you. I have more plugins than I would ever bother to count and a whole pile of hard drives that just contain samples, and it hasn't hindered my career or creative output at all.

A while ago I heard someone give a talk about doomsday cults and general calls for the end of civilization. I loved their theory. They thought that it has something to do with narcissism and the fear of being completely unimportant to the grand scheme of things. Believing that they were at the “end of the story,” in some way is comforting.BBFG# wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 4:51 pm They'll never be boomers. I call them doomers since they mostly seem to catastrophize at the very suggestion of life while tiktoking their panic so narcissistically.
