In order to rethink, I would need to think in the first place! :nutter:

My question being, are you circumventing the requirements of the $2 Loop Cloud deal by sharing the code? In other words are people getting Super 8 free when they should have paid $2 to get the code? Don't know, just asking....

It's a massive hole in their system that is incredibly easy to fix. Legally speaking, it's either negligence or intentional. They're smart and competent so I assume it's not negligence.

Another aspect, I think, is that the loopcloud offer is only open to customers who have never had a paid loopcloud account, which would have left me out. Thanks for letting me feel included, Eric!

A friend gave this code to me, he didn't use it. How would they react / know this?
As if we didn't profit from pricing errors here before :)

What bothers me more than the $2 expense is the fact that I would have to register on yet another website.

"Would have", because I own Super 8 already.

They can't. And, I'm sure that they set up such a system, because it simply doesn't make sense to set up a sophisticated, safe system for a $2 freebie.

Which means that they surely don't care. Which makes the discussion about it void.

Happened with PolyMAX too. They would have fixed it after that, if they cared.

How long have you been here?
You just realised thats what goes on here.
Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

Are you sure about that? "New subscribers only" is ambiguous---it could just mean people who aren't currently subscribed. I logged into my account and it seemed to indicate I was eligible (price for Artist plan had been reduced to $1 / month iirc). I just did a $1 for 1 month about a month ago after Loopcloud support told me I was eligible despite having subscribed before. Plan on starting the $2 for 2 months near the offer end date if in fact I'm eligible (and my apparent eligibility doesn't turn out to be a glitch they correct---wouldn't want to have it corrected before the second month without me realizing, and then get charged the full amount for the second month).

Fully intentional sales tactics to lure new customers into their system.

I've been here long enough to know that KVR has traditionally frowned on such shenanigans but hey I guess you can't legislate morality.

If you guys need a plugin so bad you can't pay $2 then you have my sympathy.

Offering the synth is a tactic, yeah. But making the code generic wouldn't help them with that.

But, since the generic code got leaked for PolyMAX too and they haven't made it non-generic this time either, can't be causing them too much trouble.

Anyway, 2$ isn't the scummiest tactic ever, for what you get (obviously, you can't really get better value!). Far worse going on out there. If you spend more than that once you're in the Loopcloud system, it's all free will.

Of course you can't, Las Vegas being the prime example with ”legal” prostitution…Just because the law says it is ok doesn't mean it is ethically correct.

While sharing this generic code might somehow be against the law it is far from morally wrong. Sharing is caring!
