It is heavy, but that is just so it doesn't blow away...

I’m GAS’ing for a MiniFreak. Probably going to pull the trigger soon…

The Mini is fantastic. Well worth getting. No doubt about that. But maybe hold on for a little while? But maybe the lack of updates indicates an upcoming special edition? Perhaps a Vocoder Edition like with the Micro? Arturia loves their special editions and the Mini was released one year ago so maybe ... it feels like the time is right.cryophonik wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2023 3:07 pm I’m GAS’ing for a MiniFreak. Hmmmmm... good thinking. I'm actually not really interested in a vocoder, but maybe I'll just buy a secondhand Mini that I can flip if an SE is released.DrGonzo wrote: Wed Nov 01, 2023 3:19 pmThe Mini is fantastic. Throws money at screen…

Although when I went to buy it the price ballooned from $399 to £457 once it included shipping, VAT and exchange costs so I’m not getting one now. Keeping my powder dry for Black Friday deals.

Damn, I had written that off seeing the announcement email, but great job on the video. It seems very flexible.

It looks sharp and sounds great. I'm going to stay away from it, assuming/pretending that I can do all that stuff with my current gear, whether it's true or not
It might be one of those things that haunts me until I try one though.
Thinking about tracking down a Zorlon Cannon mk2. They're pricey and not likely to get less pricey, but I really miss mine. I feel like I could ditch the Turing Machine stuff I just added for it.
Also thinking about that Noise Engineering Alia. I could see swapping it and the Ataraxic Iteritas in and out, until there's an AIA firmware for Alia anyway. A Cursus Iteritas Alia firmware would tip the balance I think.

Cool, this is the 2044, no? I need to find a small supply of original 2040 chips. Yes, I know that it's blasphemy, don't care.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 12:43 pm Had one of these on my wanted lists for a while and finally one showed up on eBay at a decent price

Yes, it is the 2044 and it’s been discontinued a while due to lack of those chips new. Was lucky to get one for £90.
There is a 2040 in the Tiptop Audio Z2040 (clue in the name), a used one on eBay for £105 right now. No idea where you’d source the chips alone though. If TipTop are still making them maybe worth contacting them directly?

Yeah, the Z2040 does not have an original 2040:WatchTheGuitar wrote: Wed Nov 08, 2023 9:43 pm Yes, it is the 2044 and it’s been discontinued a while due to lack of those chips new. Was lucky to get one for £90.

I have a module that has one of the modern variants and I also have a CAT that has an original. I hate to be that guy, but they aren't the same to me. I really want an original and if I can find chips then I'll just build my own.VCF chip similar to the SSM2040 in the original Prophet-5
I have a handful of 2044s in my parts bin that came from a dead synth that was unrepairable many moons ago. I suppose today I would probably try harder to fix it. I think that they came from a polysix, don't quote me on that, but back then you could get broken budget synths with analog filters for peanuts all night and all day.

Hopefully you bought it for less than what Doepfer will be charging for a new re-issue that uses the SSI2144 (modern equivalent from Sound Semiconductor).WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 12:43 pm Had one of these on my wanted lists for a while and finally one showed up on eBay at a decent price
