Activate / deactivate effect without bypass

Hi,
a am looking for a way to switch an effect on / off by automation during playback. For example I use MTurboDelay on my vocals to add a delay effect on a part of the vocals. What I need is to enable the effect for a certain time and then deactivate the effect again. So the delay should only apply to the audio material of the time the effect was enabled.
If I use Bypass, the effect of the plugin is cut as soon Bypass is activated.

Any idea how to solve my problem?

Thank you.

TurboDelayMB has the multiparameters. From them you can learn and control the Delay Input Level in, say, the ALPHA delay. Make it a switch. From there one could perhaps trigger the multiparameter from MIDI but I couldn't make it work for now at least. Maybe someone else can weigh in. But like this you can at least click the assigned multiparameter to get the desired behaviour. In MXXX you can do it in more than one way, if you have it.

Example preset:

Code: Select all

Obviously the developers are no music producers themselves. Otherwise they would have seen the importance of such an option in the software.

Irrespective of whether this is generally a common feature in other delays, there is a general-purpose solution to doing this sort of thing with any type of plug-in from any developer. Put MTurboDelay on an effect bus, set it to 100% wet, and route the signal via a send. Either automate the send level or put in a level-setting plug-in (like MUtility, for example) and automate that. A little bit or work, to be sure, but not all that bad.

MTurboDelay is built on top of MXXX, and if it had an edit mode, this would be a breeze. But there's no edit mode (otherwise you'd get the full capability of MXXX for the price of MTurboDelay. In fact, there are not even any multi-parameters to call into service (well, they're there but you cannot get to them to tweak).

Can't you just automate the dry/wet ?

Thank you for the description. This is what I have done up to now. In my opinion it could be done easier as I described it. That wouldn't bloat my projects so much.

Unlikely (depending on how dry/wet is implemented). Altering dry/wet usually results in changing the dry level, and you need the dry level to be constant.

MTurboDelayMB has multiparameters.

What's wrong with automating the "Delay Input" parameter?

Nothing. I imagined he wanted to do it live. To push a button.

Ahem ... there's no such thing as MTurboDelayMB.

Well, to answer my own question, there IS a winky face, so yes.

"Delay input" was added to all the MTD devices recently, for exactly this reason.

Well, I do stand corrected! I wrote the above response from a computer other than my DAW, using the Melda website as the source of my information. I challenge anyone to find the MTurboDelayMB plug-in mentioned anywhere. Nor does there seem to be a manual for it (in which the the presence of multi-parameters would presumably be documented).
