Albino 3 returns.....

What was the successor to Albino from Rob Papen? If I have already the synths in explorer 8, would I get anything new? I’ll definitely be upgrading from 8 to 9 so will get it by default, but will it give me anything different?

To answer your question, I assume it was Blue. It was Predator that was basically a virtual analog while Blue was the ambient alternative. Since then, we've had dozens of new instruments and several updates to Predator and Blue.

For me ,there's no equivalent synth in Explorer to Albino, predator is different. Currently I only have Albino (in the past I have owned an explorer license) , imho its the best.

Explorer 9 dropped today and I'm sorry but Albino is still a relevant sounding synth even all these years later.

It certainly does have its own character and of course because of that fact, some will like that character and some won't. I happen to like it a lot.

The new larger GUIs make working with Albino easy again and it's still a ton of fun to program in large part because of the four layers.

Albino was quite expensive at the time, I bought it for around €200 in 2005. With the 4 layers and the 1-window concept, it was one of the best synths. But I think Albino can still be used quite well today and it sounds very different to Predator, for example!

It's just a pity that I can't find my old license anymore, I would have to buy it for 99€

There is nothing changed on the sound itself, Rob's team made it only available for today's DAW, nothing more...!

Thanks for the explanations. I'm still using the last 64 bit one they released. It works, but the UI is really schitzy. Can't touch a knob while playing or the DAW will just stop. No crash, just stop playing.

It's nice that Albino 3 Legend is backwards compatible and has better GUI scaling. Although, It's a shame that currently, the plugin only scales up to a 200% setting, which is just about useable on modern UHD 4K displays.

A preferred maximum of at least 300% would have been more suitable for the update, considering this is supposedly intended as an update, to help preserve use of the classic plugin on current and future DAW setups.

I hope another update to this plugin, will include support for full UHD scaling and also a CLAP version. That would REALLY help to 'future proof' this classic plugin. In so much as that's possible to do, anyway.
