Ah, OK, I read the explanation. So the early stage is turned into a delay/echo via feedback. Interesting.

Yes, for me preferably on the late stage (or selectable). Then it would be a beast.

That creature has stolen the SpaceRoomalator.

Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Nope - the available slots have been filled up years ago...

edit:

I stand corrected it seem?

That's quite intriguing - I wonder how Sean managed to work around the slot limit... is it a new version that can be installed side by side with the original? (i.e. breaking backwards compatability)

If that would be the case it might mean Room gets even several new algos (perhaps over time)

Post

I would love a ValhallaRoom2 that could live side-by-side with the old one.

He’ll make Room for it

What do you mean? How can a VST have slot limits? It's just memory allocation.

EDIT: More info can be found here:

If this is an update (and not an upgrade), then I think they refactored the data structure internally to represent 24 slots instead of the current 8.

Yeah I mean this is really just memory allocation. It's likely extremely easy to add even more than 24 algorithms, if the structure holding all the algos/slots is a std::vector (or similar infinitely* expandable data structure available in C++). :)

* depending on amount of RAM, of course.

I'm no coder, but I always assumed it was more about how those slots translate to VST automation params, which in turn would impact session recall. If you ever tried MIDI Learning the Mode in any Valhalla plugin, you'll run into the empty slots and some weird behavior at min/max settings.

At the risk of sounding like a total kiss-ass Valhalla fanboy, which I probably am, I really hope this is a paid version 2 update. When was the last time Sean charged for a plugin? ValhallaDelay? How many years ago was that? How many algorithm updates has it received, then SuperMassive, then VintageVerb updates. C'mon Sean, it's time to charge us for stuff!

I'm hoping this is more than just ValhallaRoom+new algorithms but rather a ValhallaRoom2 with maybe fewer controls, and new fun algorithms that are different from the prior version. Probably just wishful thinking. But hey, that's just my pet wish.

Yes, I assume it will ineed be something along these lines... the way I read Sean's comment regarding the name it was supposed to be the plugin's name, not just an algo (an algo named "Space" would certainly be no issue regarding Eventide's Pedal at all).

Hmm, ok. But there's always a way around things like these (most often indirection - using a lookup array that remaps old slot stuff to new slot stuff etc.).

Maybe he really did make ROOM for more slots. :P

EDIT: Well, from the horse's mouth - https://gearspace.com/board/showpost.ph ... count=2226

So much about breaking backwards compatibility. :)

Er, afaics it's just a feedback loop for the early reflections, not a new algorithm. So with a lot of feedback the early reflections get diffused recursively, generating a tail. Should produce interesting results, particularly with crossfeed control, modulation etc.. I wonder also if it will improve the quality of the early reflections if used very sparingly, to make them more organic/less abrupt.

Ah, so like the predelay shenanigans in NI Raum. Awesome.
