Oooh! This is good! Trippy. Goes straight into my new playlist.

That video though... :hihi: ... love it! :D

Many thanks!

Welcome. I just found them. Love their sound. Was hypnotized by the video.

I've watched the video a few times too.
Also the band is super cool. Their catalogue is varied and I found a few more tracks that have a very cool psychedelic aura, albeit in a different style to what I'm looking for in this thread (but still amazing): 'Rolling Out', 'Lost in Light', 'Circles', 'Planet caravan'.
So good!

Widening my search and bouncing of King Crimson, trying to find a similar sound for the modern times, and have found a few cool bands. One of which is Opeth. They seem to have a very heavy, metal sound but there are some absolutely beautiful prog, trippy, lighter songs that feature the mellotron, Hammond, synths…

‘Burden’ from the Watershed album is just sublime.

‘I feel the dark’ from the Heritage album is also good…

I believe The Black Angels use a mellotron [EDIT: Yes, featured on the album Wilderness of Mirrors]. They fit the bill here regardless.

or polyphonic spree?
Fan of Grandaddy from their first album. Best band ever from Modesto! Was recently trying to explain their sound to someone and used Flaming Lips as a comparison, so you are on to something Vurt.

Polyphonic Spree, only show I ever attended at the old Austin City Limits, and one of the best shows I've ever seen. They put on a performance ... and of course gave start to the lovely & talented St Vincent.

Love Polyphonic Spree.

Also of course there is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, which are all over the place musically, but definitely fit squarely into this category. Another band not to miss live.

I was going to say My Morning Jacket, especially the Z album.

Maybe also Amorphous Androgynous, which I think is the FSOL guys.

And further back still, maybe Hawkwind?

The Doors? Explosions In The Sky (maybe more post rock, than psychedelic). Some David Bowie perhaps?

Do check this out. I love the chorus!

In this vein you might like Khurangabin, The Shaolin Astronauts, or The Great White Cane
And who knows, maybe even some of The Foals might be in this ball park.

Then you probably want to also check out Wooden Shjips...

The Wytches
Toy
Dead Meadow (not that new, but check Shivering King anyway)

Yeah, this is good. The very first track I clicked on ("Staring at the sun") has a very nice broad, lush sound. Sadly, no obvious synths or mellotrons, but the effects they use create a similar multi-layered* vibe. I love it.

* 'multi-layered' = I guess this is a good keyword, in that it's about rock, prog rock, psychedelic rock that uses more than just guitars, that creates a rich tapestry of sound, with the addition of synths/mellotrons that you could zone out too...so no heavy and weird pyrotechnics...There is something super cool hearing the lush sound of the mellotron with electric guitars...

...listening to the V. album...so nice! Regardless of the stylistic theme I'm looking for this is super cool! Good find. Many thanks.

The few tracks from The Wytches and Dead Meadow are certainly on the psychedelic side, but I need them synths/mellotrons in there too...

Thanks. I will check these out. But Tauk is not the sound I'm looking for here. I just posted this to show a cool band that uses synths in a very upfront manner, just as a contrast to the 'style' I'm after. It's rare to hear powerful synth solos in contemporary rock bands (not interested in Keith Emerson's synth solo noodlings).

...just looked up Khurangabin and noticed that they are already on my radar, as I have two liked songs by them...
...listening now to The Shaolin Astronauts...wow...so good! A very different sound, perhaps a more edgy and funky Snarky Puppy? but some tracks slot into my 'Acid Technicolour Space Trip' playlist very nicely... :hihi:

Many thanks.
