P.S. But there's not a single reverb in the cupboard. Maybe that's why I still feel incomplete.

To get addicted or to stop, or both?
Think of the money you've saved, not mention better health prospects.

Smoking is socially acceptable and also means more peer pressure. I reckon most smokers start young.

GAS, when it becomes more about attaining products than making music. A want, not so much need.

I assume that is based upon relapse rates. But, I'm sure we've all seen addicts puffing away through their tracheotomy. I don't know how people start smoking. The first inhalation is usually pretty aversive, yet, people keep going. Peer pressure is an aspect (environmental contingency), but is unnecessary. I didn't need it, and I was inhaling tobacco at 9.
I knew someone who started at 18. He was weird, and borderline psychotic.

I started smoking when I first kicked Heroin®. I was 35. Did it off and on (meaning I quit numerous times) for something like 15 yrs. I didn't really take note of when I was done for good, seems like 2006 or 7. It wasn't real hard, I didn't smoke multiple packs a day or anything. I had to police my mother quitting after over half a century of really going for it, first time I quit it.
Kicking benzos is hard. Quitting methadone is brutal, the way I did it AMA anyway.

Yep. Benzodiazepines are horrible.
I quit tobacco the day after George Harrison died, so it's easy for me to pinpoint. But I also quit for 3.5 years in my early 20's. And a year there, 11 months there. I was determined to stop it. I was smoking 20+ strong ciggies a day when I stopped. In fact, I'd just gone to a 7-11 at 4:00 am to buy a pack. I got home, smoked a half, butted it out, crumpled the pack and tossed it in the bin. I don't recall that time bei g difficult.
Lorazepam…..shudder.

when I first quit, with my mother (who started when she was 14, she was now 73. three packs a day kinda habit.) it was one fewer cig each day. by the time it was one cig, the next day was no problem. With weaning off methadone, I felt great all along, incl. at 1mg. You're supposed to sit with that 1mg for a couple weeks. I didn't, I walked away. Bad idea, I had the shits for two solid weeks, and I couldn't do anything. When I quit cigarettes in 06 or 07 I wasn't smoking much, seems like I was mostly bumming off a friend. Rollies as well so it was disgusting, enough of this shit. Benzos stick with your body, withdrawal can go on forever.

By "rollies", do you mean self rolled cigarettes?

Here in Belgium, most tobacco used to be far less disgusting than brand cigarettes are.
E.g. Marlboro contains ~100 additives.
- to make cigs more addictive
- to 'enhance' the taste (multiplying the nuisance for passive smokers)
- to have their cigs keep burning (even when you're not taking a drag)
- (who knows what else)

The local brands got bought by huge USA corps though, so I guess they've gone down the drain as well.

There's a US brand that sells pure tobacco (HUUUGE difference) - but they are no longer allowed to advertise the absence of additives :idiot:

Broccoli is disgusting,

Personally, I'm very happy not to enrich the psychopaths whose product kills when used as intended. That was one of the things that kept me off them: sheer rage at tobacco companies, and a refusal to let them profit off my human weakness.
My 22nd anniversary is in 3 days. If I hadn't quit, I am certain I would be dead now. I was 300+ ¥£$_\##&* lbs and a smoker. There is evidence that I had a silent heart attack at some point during that time.
It's the stupidest addiction I can think of.

Nah - it just tastes a tad boring, as it only contains 1 kind of terpenes ;)

'Broccoli', on the other hand: pine, pepper, spice, cloves, fruit...

yeah, hand-rolled. for the poor people, cheap shit tobacco. Disgusting, having no filter.
My mother lived another 10 yrs. She was getting emphysema, died eventually of complications of pneumonia. She was a big factor in me not smoking tobacco as a youth. I needed something to calm my nerves kicking the big H. at 35, 1991.
