For me its nostalgia 338, maybe for you there is something modern setups lack (sound? ease of use? graphics?), but i really don't see what it is, excuse my ears.
Agreed. What's easy to use about it? Even back then I found its sonic footprint limiting and working with it a bit tedious. I think that it's largely nostalgia for those who didn't have access to similar hardware when it came out.

Post

tedious (to use) is the key word there.

Frustratingly tedious and obtuse method of working that didn't need to be, considering it wasn't a physical device.

For the time it was pretty amazing though to have an all-in-one software groove machine with those specific devices.

A few years back I bought a TD3 when they came out, for nostalgia's sake. I wanted a 303 after all those years as a teen spending all the time trying to figure out how to make the software versions work, only to stuff it back in the box and put it in a closet after a few plays. :hihi:

There is no way I'm going back to stepping in every note like that again. Enough.

I feel like SugarBytes Egoist was an attempt to update this paradigm: drums, bass, loop slicer and FX. I suspect its lack of multiple outputs crippled its usability from the start.

My favorite was not Propellerheads Rebirth but Steinberg Rebirth One that looked so much better than the later Rebirth versions.
In the beginning Steinberg owned Propellerheads until they decided to split and Propellerheads where Born and the ugly Rebirth where Born and Rebirth one faded away in it's shadows :)

Today i don't see a reason for Rebirth to exist since we have so many 303 and drum emulations to choose from in hw and software that are much easier to use in a daw.

It was groundbreaking technology when it was released back in the day but not today.

If you use Reason you can build a Combinator with the same setup to mimic Rebirth.

So wheres the petition?

Steinberg never owned propellerhead as far as I'm aware. They had a partnership, and I believe Steinberg acted as publisher/distributor, but that's about it.

You are correct and they where more partners than owners of Propellerhead.

When Steinberg One was released Steinberg was the first thing you saw in the About/Info page and Propellerhead where in small text that made me think that they owned Propellerheads back in the day.

I didn't know that Peter Jubel was on board at Propellerhead so early. Here's a list of what he did, apart from doing the DSP for the first Nord Lead synth: https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic. ... ed#p518069

Not sure if it is still possible to get it but search for Steinberg Rebirth One and you might find it somewhere.

Mine runs on windows 11 so I don't want an upgrade, everything upgraded always is horrible.
I'm glad I downloaded and saved a bunch of songs too.

I think it would have been a lot cooler if he'd done it with the Behringer stuff and all off the shelf, buy it in a music store today gear. As I recall, one of the things that was so great about getting Rebirth was that it kinda gave you access to gear that was unobtainium. Those OG Roland boxes have only become more unobtainium since. Using ~$10K+ in hardware to emulate an old softsynth just seems like a flex more than anything.

I liked his results though.

TIL there were multiple apps called ReBirth lol.

I used the one from Propellerheads’ for like a week, then Reason 1.0 came out and switched to that lol.
