Can Chipsynth 64 do close to Amstrad CPC music? Spec looks similar.

I absolutely hate that typical C64 type patch that sounds like a nasty telephone, like some super aggressive and super fast square wave modulation going on. I'm thinking maybe this was a trick to sneak in extra voices into a song or something, otherwise I can't tell why that type of sound would be so prevalent in c64 stuff.

Luckily, it's not necessary to make those types of sounds and regular leads, basses, etc sound great. I just went to the vintage lead section, added some delay (I think the default setting of Replika XT?) and panned through the presets and immediately bought it. SID leads with delay absolutely rip.

I'm glad this is done so now Plogue can work on and perfect the true crown jewel...

The Amstrad CPC uses an AY-3-8910, which is a 3-channel square wave and noise chip. So it can do that kind of stuff and better! Also, Chipsynth MD emulates the 4-channel PSG, though there isn't any deep editing.

Man, quite fancy running the Rob Hubbard Delta ingame music on this (the On The Run / Koyannisqatsi mashup). Twisted my head as a kid and hearing it recently it sounds so visceral nearly 40 years later. SID PWM is only beaten by the PWM of a Yamaha CS01.

This sounds wonderful. It's at least as good as the obvious competition and much, much, MUCH deeper. Will it replace my actual SID instruments? In a lot of situations, yes. Having this ITB is just way more practical. The only downside is the CPU consumption, 1.0 runs away with quite a lot of juice on my mobile system.

But of course I bought it.

I have a very stupid question regarding this chipsynth, I am not able to find the download on the download page. Am I missing something? Or some CDN issue?

As someone told me, demos don't appear until 2 weeks after the release. Right now, the only way is too buy it.

At the moment you'll get a link on purchase - they'll no doubt be on there in the near future though. This seems to be the case for their previous products on release so I'm presuming it's so they don't get pirated for the first few weeks as the link isn't freely available.

Thank you, in this specific case I don't need a demo, I trust them and can buy it!
I think in the past I never bought anything from them so close to the release that the download was not already there in advance. Therefore I was confused by the lack of download.

This is correct. Though when they really want to they can steal a CC and do it anyway :/

David, i like that you've included "gate" as a destination for the stepsequencers. But what is "stall" doing? I know various music routines do different things in their own way. Like often include $09 in the beginning etc. So i tried the emu sound grabber yesterday, and it was very interesting to see how CS64 translated the code to modulations. And it placed a "stall" modulation among the other usual stuff like pwm, transpose etc. (I read the manual, but did not find it there).

'stall' targets the test bit of each oscillator, essentially stopping the accumulator at whatever height it was. Could be used to create rhythmic things, and as is the case for the "Bojojoing" preset, resets the Noise as well at audio rate (steps/sync: note pitch)
