Msaturator Compander question.

Hi. I'm trying to figure out how the MSaturator compander works. In the manual it's written, that it's just a compressor, which compresses the signal before the input knob, but it works in a weird way.

When I set the atack to zero, then all of sudden, the R (does is stand for "reduction" within the saturation module?) meter on the right just goes crazy and goes right to the bottom like if it for some reason not working anymore and in addition to that feeded a huge amount of gain into the input knob. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong...
