Now here is some creativity.
I recently found the youtube channel of Craig Anderton. Ya guitar wielders will know him. Used to make the stomp boxes he designed way back... These days he works for Presonus.

So he made this video , which uses the frequency slots of a multiband compressor senza compression - a genius idea. I made a little dummy device that plugs into the slots (and does nothing), but this measure may be superfluous sonically at least - just bypass all devices you have there.

This unit allows you to customize your display with sonogram or whatever, to solo bands, mute bands, select crossovers etc. The default bands I used are subbass -80, bass -200, lomid -500, mid -2000, himid -6000, treble -20.000. This of course is subject to taste.

The GUI can be collapsed. No meters etc. are needed.
Note that more elegant features could be built into MTurbocompMB itself as a wrapper (not the units in the slots), since the wrapper "sees" all unit´s MPs (but not the other way around), but unfortunately MTurbocompMB itself does not produce a "front plate", and performance manipulating MP´s is not elegant. But this tool is nifty as is. Just save it as a local preset.

For those who have never done this:
select the code above (select all), copy it to the clipboard and then click the icon on MTurbocompMB. Take care that you use the "wrapper's" icon an not the one of one of the devices!
Save it as local preset afterwards.

Wow, Craig Anderton. Good to see he is still active. Its an especially good idea because band shelf filters are relatively uncommon. This method gives us access to the great crossover filter options built into the MB plugins. Nice one aquataur!

Post

This EQ is even more useful than just meets the eye. Solo one of the bands. Grasp one of the dots on the (center) bands, and you can move the band up and down the spectrum by moving the mouse sideways. If you move the mouse forward resp. backward, you narrow / widen the band. Easy to hone in on problem frequencies. This will of course throw your band association (mid, low, high etc.) to hell.
This version turns out more powerful than the device Craig uses.

I could not find out what the little icon at the bottom left of the band does. There is no manual for the MB version per se.

Post

The little icon is to bypass processing on the band.

Ah, thanks.
Note that the EZ window is always labeled "Meldei 1176". This is IMHO one of the bugs I sent in and asked to be remedied.

Using a dummy device has the advantage that the overall window can be made even smaller so that you can focus (pun intended) on the task.

Melda EQs have an auto-listen button which lets you solo that band as well, so you can listen to and dial in the band as quickly as with a multi-band crossover. Without adding unnecessary phase shifts at all the other crossover points.

You can use the mouse-wheel to adjust the Q of the band while you're moving it around. Although sometimes, it starts zooming the frequency graph instead. In that case, let go of the band and click it again.

P.s. You can also use the free MRatioMB if you're only interested in the crossover panel and not the compression.

Ah great news. This is very useful and also eliminates the to-and-fro Anderton is mentioning.
But I listened to both. Try to widen a band with the focusing EQ, and the result will be much different. The difference is given by the bell shape.
Autolisten sounds more like a wah-wah when you sweep, except when you make the bell very
wide. Plus you cannot boost or attenuate a band readily.

So those methods cannot really be compared, they do not overlap very much.

MRatioMB: I do not understand (at first glimpse) what this thing does. I ought to see it in action.
I can see that it is a downsized version of the above plug-in. I guess you get the EQ trick working on this one too.

This happens when you during right-clicking accidentally hover over one of the black pulling things that belong to a band node, not when you click into the empty space.

For the MTurbocompMB screen I found another shortcut: when you have modified the gain of a band by pulling the line up or down and you want to reset it, there is no need to go to the menu. Hover the mouse over the gain bar until the up/down arrows appear and right-click.

M(Auto)DynamicEq also has two band-shelf shapes which sound very similar to the multi-band version.

Just bypass all the processing in the bands, and you can adjust the crossover settings to taste the same you would in MTurboCompMB.

You can paste this in MRatioMB

Interesting! Now I'm wondering if this could be useful for mimicking Eventide's Split EQ, if we change the crossover type to Tonal / Transient?
I'm guessing that would require more than one instance though... maybe MXXX could handle that.

Would be interesting to know if anyone has achieved this! I think most of the MB fx in the Creative Bundle can have fx processing switched off

Actually... some of the MB plugins have a built in EQ (MconvolutionMB etc), so maybe I could build Split EQ with just a Melda Reverb

Wow! That is actually awesome.
I use FL though, not Ableton
Is there any way this could be saved as an MXXX preset?
Sorry, making music atm, and can't quite get my head around what you've done yet

If that could be an MXXX preset though... could be super useful to a lot of people!
