But in the meantime, and on a Mac (which I guess many of the 4/5 K folks are using), Cmmd + scroll zooms the whole screen for me, so I can use my titchy plugins easily enough before going back to regular screen res.
That’s fanatastic. I don’t believe we have an equivalent on the PC side. I would use it if it were there.

My two cents. One of the very last manufacturers I deal with to implement VST3 and Mac M1 which was suprising. Also one of the only ones left on my computer not resizing. Competition is getting stiff so I feel sorta bad that they might have to do some heavy lifting on the code. Bottom line for me is the GUI is very outdated for my taste regardless what they sound like. And too small for me. On the plus plus they have fantastic upgrade paths to complete your bundle type stuff and sales a plentiful.

Yeah, it's pretty bad in 2023 to not have GUI scaling in a plugin. If you have your monitor mounted far away from the desk (many studios seem to) it's especially bad.

I've had the Soundtoys bundle for some time and rarely use anything from it, largely due to the GUI issues. Some of them sound great, but they are a PITA to use.

My best guess is that Soundtoys are using a proprietary tooling for their plugin GUI development and the overhead of retrofitting their libraries they've developed over years of code is too much to swallow. Not every company places much value on UX, unfortunately.

Any idea if Soundtoys is listening and planning on changing this?

IMO they are more than less abandonware.
Sorry, fanbois.

They released a new plugin this year. Even that isn’t resizable. I doubt they would rework their old plugins

A wall of shame (thread) with developers not supporting GUI scaling/resizing needs to be created 😅

Eventide (if they haven't released new versions), AIR (at least the old plugins), Serato (at least Sample, in case there isn't a new version supporting this). SSL (if I'm not mistaken).

There are a lot more of course, but I stopped using, and buying, plugins from developers not supporting this, so can't remember more atm.

Eventide has been steadily releasing updated versions of all their plugins with GUI resizing. The only ones they haven’t gotten to yet are the two H3000 plugins, but they have definitely said they will be getting an update, too. Who knows, maybe they’re busy doing an H3000 Mk II.

Eventide guys are quite active to keep their plugin offerings up-to-date and are releasing new (exciting) stuff regularly. Nothing of that to be said about Soundtoys.

Thanks, didn't know about this. I got tired waiting, especially since I a year and a half back, or so, got the answer from their support that this wasn't in the roadmap, especially not since they didn't understand why this would even be requested.

In the last 15 years they've supported every OS update, every architecture change, released new products, are working on VST3 and another OS and architecture change at the moment (and possibly other things).

What is the definition of "semi-abandonware"? Not releasing enough upgrades to satisfy people on forums?
Yeah seriously! This isn't abandonware (or even semi) by any means.

Do I want to see new Soundtoys plugins with new GUI's, that are also resizable, with an expanded Rack that has modulation capabilities and parallel paths, along with built-in oversampling? Heck yeah! But that doesn't make Soundtoys abandonware. They fix bugs and support current OS's and hardware.

Note: if there wasn't an M1 beta out, I may have been more inclined to agree. :hihi:
Maybe it was a bit harsh to call Soundtoys "semi-abandonware", but developers keeping their plugins OS-compatible is the bare minimum they can do to keep their plugins afloat. To be fair, it's Apple's fault for making OS-compatibility the #1 priority for plugin developers for several years, instead of innovation.

The new Super Plate is awesome but it took them 6 years to get from Little Plate to Super Plate. That said, I'm sure a Soundtoys 6 bundle will have GUI-resizing because you'd have to be daft to release plugins now without it.

I haven't completely given up on Soundtoys, but there are mountains of great alternatives around like Valhalla Delay (EchoBoy), Process Audio SpiceRack or Arturia's 'DIST' range (Decapitator), and most of them have the Quality of Life features that Soundtoys plugins lack: GUI resizing, oversampling, A/B instancing, etc.

Post

BTW...they are not "our plugins"...

They are the property of Sound Toys and peeps pay for a license to use the software...

So there should be no confusion regarding the entitlement that some folks think they have a right to demand 🌞
No auto tune...

They don't resize but they do scale better if you use ctrl mousewheel on Mac (or I presume Windows scaling). The last update did add high dpi graphics resources to enable this, I hope that is a sign that they are creating the foundations for full resizability at some point.
