ILOK is not Soundtoys specific. So what is the point with that now?

Some plugins like decapitator remain hard to replace exactly the way they work...

Kush was the one I had to wait the longest for. To be fair, I didn't try contacting support or anything because I had the other license on my physical iLok. It may have gone faster if I had reached out.

Maybe not abandonware, but I can’t imagine anyone buying anything from them. I got my money’s worth out of these plugins, so I’m not really that disappointed about it, but I feel like it can’t be going well there. I can’t imagine these ancient plugins are generating any sort of income for someone.
The numbers they showed for raising funds for different charities were impressive. I don’t remember what they were but they sent them out in various newsletters over the past few years.

Why am I bringing this up?

No one that knows how well they’re doing in sales is going to chime in.

And, I think more and more this line of thinking about their success or lack of it has more to do with the aging out of the KVRaudio forum.
Lots of grumpy old farts now that can join in a conversation about various physical age related ailments just as well as they can discuss how boring it is to see a new delay plug-in release.

Also their hiring page for the marketing director position seems very focused on making informed marketing decisions. I’m actually just impressed they know this is what they’re looking for.

iLok was the main reason why I've never entertained the prospect of purchasing Soundtoys products. And instead looked elsewhere.

Also their GUIs always looked rather dated / user-unfriendly (I'm not a fan of the faux analogue skeuomorphic user interfaces, for use within a completely digital DAW environment). Those redundant "wood panelling" frames, taking up valuable screen space, which could otherwise have been dedicated to larger parameter controls and readouts, always irritates me. I didn't like that in Arturia plugins and I also didn't like it when GForce recently tried a similar thing for their SEM 1.6 update, before quickly back-tracking and fixing that GUI faux pas.

However, I was unaware Soundtoys plugins also lacked full scaling options, until reading about it in this topic. And since I am exclusively using a 4K UHD display, it's probably just as well I never bought any of Soundtoys' stuff, since they'd probably look tiny on my 4K display.

With all that being said, I've heard nothing but good things about Soundtoys products "sound-wise" from other users, which is an important thing to consider. But then, so do many of their rivals' plugins, so that doesn't fully compensate for the aforementioned deficiencies.

If Soundtoys were to offer a proper non-iLok alternative (i.e. "real" non-iLok, rather than having it included in their installer) and modernized their GUIs, then I might give them another chance.

Soundtoys - Who needs an iLok.com account?
Who needs an iLok.com account? - (i.e. by non-iLok, I mean NOT this...)

Since June 2022, iLok.com accounts are no longer required to purchase and activate Soundtoys plug-ins. With our new system, all newly purchased Soundtoys products can be activated with an Activation Code and no iLok.com account. This now includes upgrade orders, EDU orders, and purchases made through a third-party dealer. We do still include the iLok software in the Soundtoys installer, since Activation Codes still use the iLok software for licensing.

Yeah, pretty sure they are doing just fine at the moment. Its hilarious how often you see posts on these forums 'OMG THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING IN 2 MONTHS THEY MUST HAVE GONE OUT OF BUSINESS'.

So many armchair accountant speculators that somehow know ALL the juicy financial details of corporations they can't actually get anywhere close to.. Like the idiots who claim developers are losing SO MUCH money because they wont include features from other DAWs in theirs. (You would think everyone and their mother switched to Bitwig from all the ranting at various spots).

This user posted agism which is just another form of hate rhetoric and they should smarten up.

Just because I can't imagine it, doesn't mean it's not happening. I can't imagine giving money to Joel Osteen either, yet somehow he's finding tons of cash and checks in the walls of his bathroom.

Carry on.

Interesting, considering this user responded without considering the previous user’s age, or perhaps the previous user’s participation in chats about age related ailments.

Just a guess, but you might not be the best person to tell anyone to smarten up, but when has smarts stopped anyone from doing anything that they should or shouldn’t do, and who’s the one judging along the way?

 I went years without knowing who the hell that was until a colleague made a point to read passages from their book every morning. Brutal.

I won’t point fingers (much) because I’ve been guilty about that at times too. Now, where I’ve been genuinely surprised is when reading YouTube comments. f**k… So many experts that know exactly what brand “y” has done wrong and why they’re no longer successful. Too many messages asking why brand “y” has failed to listen to their users, yet again. :hihi:

It’s always better to see the humor in it, as much as that is possible.

You know, I'm happy to still have a 1080p monitor. No issue with any plugin, resizable or not. :)

Oh boy. I really hate when I buy from companies who finance charities I don't know of, and I might not want to fund with my purchases.

Businesses are businesses, for christs sake, no charities or political institutions. And, no, it doesn't matter if they (think) they save the world with what they do. I want to spend my money on a product when I buy from them. I spend my money on charities when I want to do that.

Good thing I only ever spent $29 on one of their plugins or something. Now that I know that they spend some of their revenues on charities of god knows which kind, I surely will consider twice before spending any more money on their stuff.

I’m pretty sure they announce and display the fundraising phases so there’s no mystery. They also show which programs they’re raising money, so again, no mysteries.
