The core program is the same so it's not lacking in the way that the free version of Resolve is.
Edit just lacks some additional add-on tools and 3rd party extras.
The higher versions are irrelevant for many people.
what is the free version of Resolve missing that Vegas has?

I was comparing Vegas v Vegas against Resolve v Resolve.
To compare Vegas v Resolve, you'd need to have a close look at the features of both.
One thing that springs to mind with Resolve is that the free version lacks GPU acceleration and also has reduced resolution and CODEC support.
It does have a reputation for being very resource heavy too.

I'm not knocking Resolve, but making a counter argument against what appeared to be misinformation about Vegas Edit.
Here's the differences between Pro Edit and Pro Suite:
Suite = Edit, plus:
SOUND FORGE Audio Studio
ACID Music Studio
Mocha VEGAS
Boris FX Primatte Studio

Anyone looked at the free Rhodes V-pan plugin?

I got all the way through and then noticed it said it installs something called codemeter and gorilla manager. Any one had experience with those?

Codemeter is their preferred protection system.
It's the same sh** that Antares is using for their Auto-Tune plugins... Unfortunately necessary...
The Gorilla Manager is their download manager. I don't know if Rhodes is offering also download links like a few other companies...

I tried to pick up the Air plugin but there doesn't seem to be any way to add the $20 credit to the shopping cart, and it's not automatically added. I sent a message to their support about it.

My previous experience with Codemeter for a MAAT plugin wasn't great. Although this was years ago so it might be different now - but for me, the app auto-started with Windows, sat permanently in the System Tray and performed call/response check-ins constantly, sometimes with prompts. For one plugin, I just felt it wasn't worth the annoyance and performance hit.

They can say what they like about it being super efficient, invisible and convenient - it's the worst copy protection out there (even iLok haters would agree). I think MAAT got rid of it after various complaints (including me....) but it's disappointing to see the legendary Rhodes brand using it.

So, I did what any entitled whinger would do  and that's sign up a Rhodes account and grab a free license on V-Pan anyway, without installing it, in hoping they'll switch to some less intrusive copy protection system in future.

If you click through your cart to the payment page, there's a checkbox to apply the credit.

Antares with all Auto-Tune Plugins is using Codemeter too...
And I dare say that Antares is also legendary by now... ;-)
But most producers who work a lot with vocals and have to deal with corrections use it despite this annoyance, because they are forced to...

We tested Resolve a bit in the foto-club ,.. and people used to Premiere said that it was VERY
light and responsive compared to Adobe for basic editing at least

The basic free Resolve was considered plenty to keep most people busy 1-2 years before upping

Most important lack is the Fusion-part as far as I can tell

Resolve, is especially used for color-grading, considered a king, even by people on other NLE's

Black Magic the compagny and hardware-department behind is also highly ranking

Working with nodes, as seen in Fusion, is the pro way to work, hard to learn, but rewarding

-----------------------

The Vegas version discussed here might have some unique features that unexpected can be usefull for some, despite platform, and justify the very low price, just as a one trick pony,..

Could be better stabilizing for action-cam fottage, better format-conversion, noise-removal, or whatever

Its just that I dont have the insight

MSoundFactory LE is so cheap now on their sale, I wonder if it's worth getting? I know I can't edit much with it, sorta like Analog Lab Play, but the price is great.
