Unfortunately it sounds like discoDSP ain't listening and the price is what it is
A very poorly thought out decision according to the majority who've aired their views on here, but good luck with the upgrade discoDSP, I hope you have enough 'loyal customers' left to actually make it to the Black Friday sale

George is no where to be found.
As I stated, this makes me sad. I really liked DiscoDSP products and George was always the best. I know this is business, but it really feels like we lost a friend. There is no personality coming in here and talking with us. I mean love them or hate them, even Marcus (Tone2), and msvs (Vengeance) have personalities and appear to work with us, quickly answering questions personally, whether we like the answers or not.
DiscoDSP. It isn't about losing my business. It is much bigger.
The update (which is minor) is an insult (at that price). Period. Stop insulting us, and talk to us George!

We want to address concerns regarding the update price. If the current price doesn't suit you, we often have sales for our existing customers. We believe this is a reasonable approach.
The latest Discovery Pro 8 marks a significant milestone in sound quality improvement in the past 10 years. Additionally, we have consistently updated version 7.x for nearly four years, showing our commitment to product longevity.
As we observe a steady trend of customers upgrading, it's important to note that the feedback in this thread may not fully represent the broader customer experience and sentiment.

I'm reminded of an economics professor who once had an object lesson where he asked the class what something was worth. He showed a computer screen shot on a wall projector of a beat up piece of equipment--I don't remember what, so let's just say it was a guitar for illustrative purposes.modularmoog wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 9:17 pmI have read your replies now. See, I think that's what people don't understand about economy: The best (and only) way of making a point is deciding whether or not it's worth the money. If the cost of upgrade, of the cost of the plugin is too high, George won't sell many licenses. Thus, he will consider twice next time, if he wants to charge that price.
It's 100% fair. For everyone. It's also fair that there are DAWs which are free, and some which cost thousands of €. What exactly isn't fair about that? There is no "fair" price, just one that people pay or not.
Let us put it this way (since you know what is fair and we are clueless).
Let´s assume SYLENTH1 is a top #1 as of until this day (surely we can agree it is within top #5 right??). Lennar ask €139 for this. Now let us assume he makes a pretty much minor upgrade and ask €138 for the upgrade, then of course €139 for new
I guess your #1 skilled economic harvard eco-skills now will answer us "it is 100% fair?
Ok enough nonsense, you really got no clue, do you? It is not a discussion about what mr (whats his name again?) can ask or not.... it is a question about hitting the target being fair to their customers. After seeing this my conclusion is: 100% SCAM!
The guitar was in pretty rough shape, and the professor got the class to put a value on the item. Several did, and the results were quite expected--low value. He then went on to show the class that the item had sold for millions of dollars in one of those big auctions. Apparently the device had belonged and been used by someone very special and the item was so rare that there were few left in existence, and they were desperately wanted by collectors of those items.
The class was stunned, as the professor then made his point--an item is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Whether that is an expensive item that no one wants, or whether it is a beat up, broken down item that everyone wants.
The point is, chk071 is absolutely correct--the value of an item is what you are willing to pay for it. The price given is fair. Why? Because it is George's product, and he has the right to price it as he pleases. You, as the customer, have the right to vote with your wallet whether to buy or not buy the item at the listed price.
If you look back at the updates provided over the years, and if you have been here long enough to know George's history back to the days of Arguru, then you will likely have an opinion on things similar to mine. I won't give my personal opinion about all of this, because I'm trying to make a neutral post. But, I will say this--think very carefully about whether controversy has followed the developer in the past, and if so, how often. Then make your decision whether it is worth the cost or not.

From what I've read from the DiscoDSP comments they do listen. They just don't share the point of view of quite a lot of people posting here.MikeCallon wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 9:54 pm Unfortunately it sounds like discoDSP ain't listening and the price is what it is![]()
While I decided not to upgrade right now I still feel this is a fair situation.
George does not seem to feel an urgent need to drop the upgrade fee right now for his own reason.
On the other hand many people don't feel an urgent need to upgrade from an older version as the offered features do not meet their expectations.
Things may change in the future.
- DiscoDSP might add stuff in the current v8 product lifecycle that might people make adjusting their opinion on the upgrade price being worth it. Chances are... well... there.
- DiscoDSP might drop the upgrade price if sales don't meet their expectations. Wouldn't bet on it.
- DiscoDSP might have a sale every now and then that makes people feel like being treated as a valued customer more than they feel right now. They even hinted people to it.
How many of you tried the demo and were sure v8 would be a must have as it is right now ?
I felt like most of you when I read it was 75 bucks, maybe even more including VAT. "No way !"
But then I was like... "Well, I'm not exactly missing anything right now, eh?"
If this upgrade is only just about "refined", "advanced", "improved" and "expanded" - why does everybody want it so desperately ?

I do, obviously, have an opinion--as do you. I tried very hard to not give my opinion, in order to stay as neutral as possible. In no way did I state that I had a good or a bad opinion about the developer.modularmoog wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:53 pm"I won't give my personal opinion about all of this, because I'm trying to make a neutral post" ???audiojunkie wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:30 pmI'm reminded of an economics professor who once had an object lesson where he asked the class what something was worth. Ha ha. KVR.
To be clear, the things I have mentioned are not about fairness. It may touch on value, but that is still not at the heart of it. My thoughts focus on consistency: consistency in communication, consistency in pricing, consistency in the nature of upgrades, etc.
At best, Disco DSP can call this v8.0 because it is their software.
As a former dev, my view is that on its best day this is a v7.95 update, and should have been "consistently" free or maybe even something small for the time and effort put into the um, uh, browser. From EXPERIENCE, George would have done this.
So I really believe George is MIA. The best we have gotten is that he is "away or unavailable" (those EXACT words in the other thread...which is it? Away or unavailable?) which is a stupid response given how active he was here at one point.
I remember he got sick some years back, and yet managed to make his way here and help us out.
The consistency has me worried for him. And his company's future.
