Yeah - this is the one we've been waiting for.
https://korneffaudio.com/product/el-juan-limiter/
Demoing it now. No ISP protection, I need to set the ceiling to -1.5 to prevent peaks from going any further than -0.3. Pumpy. Mushes transients and the high end. Same deal as the free W1 so for me only worth using on tracks/buses.
The input/output are amplifiers - the limiting is set to 0.0. You can enable oversampling and also the other advanced features. Yes, not a modern mastering limiter and not pretending to be one (either was L1, really).

Though I just got KClip 3, so I'm looking forward to messing with it and seeing what it's like using a really good clipper before the maximizer in the mastering stage.
KClip 3 is quite very good (the GUI could be better) very versatile and sound is top notch.
Very usable ! ...and light on CPU
I'm getting comfortable with it now that I know it better and can get it to do what I want, which is primarily just keeping individual tracks from peaking too high. But once I get a song from my current batch of songs to the mastering stage we'll see what it can do in conjunction with Ozone 9's maximizer. I don't go for super loud, but even getting to around -12LUFS without intersample peaks is tricky if you just ask the maximizer to do it all. Share the load between the clipper, maybe a limiter, and the maximizer and they'll all sound better since they're only carrying a small part of the load.

Anyway, I'm rambling...

Post

Should I list all 347 limiters I have ? or just the ones that were released in the last week ?
one thing I have learned from Dave Pensado (great advice) is : "I use them on every mix".

Besides all the usual suspects (NFA Elevate, Limitless, TDR Limiter no6 GE, etc.) I use KClipZero (zero hustle), MCompressor (AMAZING clipper), TM LoudMax (getting better all the time !), and as of late I use my own custom Lexicon emulation (Lexcellent) limiter section.

El Juan is still free as of right now, but it won't be free soon. It's a great character track limiter. El Juan and Tracklimit are all I need for track limiting - and I use Tracklimit on the mixbus while jamming.

I have a few others but rarely use them. I'm excluding clippers, as well, as I consider those separate (or a separate function that can be paired with a limiter).

I picked it up recently. Really nice sounding plugin with lots of great options. I don't even mind the UI but I wish there was more visual feedback and more options with the visualizer. At least show me where the threshold is since the visualizer is post output, so when you link input and output the waveform display shrinks.

It sounds pretty bad (not good), even at moderate gain reduction levels. Well, not surprising, considering that it's based on the obsolete L1 limiter of the late 1990s. Why would I use a bad sounding limiter, when I can use a free limiter like Kilohearts Limiter, that sounds significantly better for all basic limiting purposes? Not to mention dedicated mastering limiters like Tokyo Dawn Limiter 6.

I always have it on the main stereo out during production and mixing with the ceiling set to -0.3 often pushing the input gain to do 2 - 3 dbs of gain reduction. Not once did I experience ISP overs!

El Juan by Korneff, it's great! It's iLok too, so it's convenient if you work out of different studio's :)

Edit: it’s not iLok! So ignore my sarcasm :)

I get the feeling they are testing a new licence platform as part of the BETA, maybe they are looking to move on to a system they control. All other plugins are iLok but EL isn't.

You’re totally right! They’re working on a new licensing system. My bad, ignore my sarcastic iLok comment…

Consider yourself pardoned! at least we agree it sounds good and works well, like all of their plugins.... Pawn Shop Comp sounds proper, even when the Comp part is turned off.

Korneff do 4 iLok activations by the way, the most i've seen from any company.
Those dudes are cool as f**k.

My feeling was EL sounded good even at stupid amounts of reduction, plenty of options to alter the sound if needed. Managed 20db of reduction on a kick drum, it gelled it nicely, reduced the output to suit and sounded fine.

Most sensible people I've watched have stated True Peak is BS for the most part.
