I didn't make it this time. I started late, and when Christmas time came, we went on a one-week trip to meet our families. I even took a notebook and MPC25, hoping I would finish my tune. Indeed I progressed and the result was promising. But we returned yesterday night after 8 hours trip. I did not have enough strength to push myself to finish it (it would take more than an hour or two).
I'm going however to listen to your productions and attend voting.
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. Let's meet on the next OSC rounds.

Happy new year Tobias. Many thanks for setting your creation free, and giving us the chance to have fun with it. I hope you gained from this OSC with some good feedback, and examples of what can be achieved with it. All the best for the future!vastdynamics wrote: Thu Dec 28, 2023 11:51 am I'm not sure if it's OK with OSC rules for the developer to speak out. But I really need to say how impressed I am with the tracks and I would like to express a heartfelt thank you for the time everyone here has dedicated to the development.
Hearing how my small tool is used creatively by artists is the greatest reward I can receive for my passion and it motivates me to continue to dedicate more and more time to the project and to continuously improve it.
At the same time, I would like to apologize that there were stability issues. When Vaporizer2 became FOSS, to allow for more polyphony, I decided to switch to dynamic voicing to be more efficient with main memory consumption. In fact, I wasn't even aware of the OSC at the time. Otherwise I probably would have postponed such a larger change. Personally, I get annoyed very quickly by unstable and faulty plugins. So I can understand frustration very well. It is my ambition to achieve the highest quality. That's not always easy to reach, mainly on your own as a part-time passion. I hope everyone who sees the good things about Vaporizer2 will give the synth a chance in future, even if they were annoyed by bugs.
To all the folks on KVR, I offer that we continue to develop the plug-in together and create new features and sound possibilities that make it one of the most useful creative tools in the FOSS music space.
I hope you all had great holidays and I wish you a happy new year.![]()

Hello Tobias, my best wishes to you too, I was positively impressed by the complexity of you Vaporizer. I understand that it may needs improvements in some functions, predictability was not not always there, but it's a very powerful machine and to make sound design by intuition is welcome by me anyway. Thanks for sharing your work and your open attitude.vastdynamics wrote: Thu Dec 28, 2023 11:51 am ...

Hi all,
This is mainly for the organizers of this challenge, but perhaps this has been discussed and decided already and I’ve simply missed it.
December’s synth was open source. Is there a OSC rule which either allows or disallows modifications of the source code? If so, I have not seen it. An argument for disallowing is that the synth that is used by one contestant can differ from that used by all other contestants. A counterargument in favor of allowing modification is that one of the key goals of this contest is to fully demonstrate what the synth is capable of, and open-source synths are capable of doing more than closed-source synths when in the proper hands.
Does a similar OSC rule already exist governing use of open-source effects plugins?
And then there is potential use of closed-source plugins by those of us who have written plugins which have not been publicly released.
Allowing programming would provide advantages for some contestants over others, but presumably so does everything else, for example knowledge of music theory.
Practically speaking, a month isn’t a lot of time for modification of something as complex as an unfamiliar synth, so that one is not something to worry about excessively.
Using a private effect that has been under development for a long time may seem unfair, but it’s entirely possible to do that with composition, arranging, editing, and so on. Some contestants may already have a pipeline full of compositions from which to pick a suitable candidate once the synth and rules are announced each month.
Just something to consider. Frankly, I doubt that many programmers are participating or would participate in OSC, so a decision either way is unlikely to change things very much. I myself am OK either way, just want to know what the applicable rules are, if any.

Not programmed any FX since I did some using a PDP-11 and the LSI-11 (single board 11!) back in the 1970's ... also looked at the micro-vax as a platform ...DaveClark wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 6:05 pm... Frankly, I doubt that many programmers are participating or would participate in OSC ...

Very very impressive tracks, and excellent showcase for the synth
I had a rough start with it, but once things clicked I started appreciating its power and versatility
Listening to the other tracks I quickly understood I barely scratched the surface
