Look, I have DiscoveryPro 7 and their Corona synth.
I do support little brands ( i have alot of plugins)

I would have upgraded, even if it is to support more development and not for the features.
But I found the price too high.

Then later in the locked thread a vid appeared that said that v7.9 and v8 are basicly the same sounding (didnt listen)
I can imagine this being upsetting the developer. But instead of delivering a/b examples ( I asked for that as well earlier) he doubled down and called everybody ( me too then) a troll and locked the thread.

I found this highly disrespectful, will not be ever buying again. And to the concern-troll in both threads (you know who you are), I would like to say...not working mate.

What a bad update/launch man, I would really have loved it that it was better than this cringy stuff, but it is what it is.

Cheers.

Well he could say or do what he wants now, he'd still get trashed here.
Well judging from the guys past antics and his reputation, maybe this "trashing" (a bit extreme don't you think?) is well deserved.

How exactly should we voice our displeasure as consumers of his product? Sounds like you would say "keep your mouths shut and just don't buy it". That's not how things work today, pal:

Bitwig thing - the people spoke, Bitwig caved (or since you seem to be a little sensitive, they "reconsidered")
Waves - people spoke and Waves caved.
UAD - people spoke and UAD caved.

None of this sh*t is gonna fly anymore.

waves was one of those rare cases where I wound up emailing a company direct about it...with a snarky "congratulations on setting fire to your own business".

when they realised going subs-only wasn't a viable plan, I bought a year's worth of WUP to get the latest release (though part of that decision was "just in case they have another rush of blood to the head and do it all again").

Well, considering that the least of us run an audio plugin business, I'm not sure why people here think they're more qualified than he is, especially when it comes to the interests of his company.

It's more a case of "Uh well, that's too expensive for me, moving on.". But, no, that's not how KVR rolls, unfortunately. Nothing better than a moral superiority contest, spiced up with some political agenda.
Well no, you’re missing the point, sorry. Nobody’s trying to get it half-price right now. They’ve just announced a crazy update price, people are laughing.

See. Customers thinking the price is too high means less sales right ? So maybe Disco DSP should be aware that some customers will never buy the upgrade at this price don’t you think ?

You’re talking superiority contest, when you’re the ONLY one saying the contrary of everybody here ? Then who are you to say customers shouldn’t warn a developer that he’s going in the wrong direction ? You think Disco DSP doesn’t need any feedback, they just need to wait for sales or what ? Well the thing is that a lot of people here think they should talk to Disco DSP. Forum thing maybe ?

The update did seem pricey to me, but the level of negativity directed towards DiscoDSP in general seems out of proportion to anything they've actually said or done.

My advice as an internet/forum-user with 47 years experience :

users: when it comes to opinions and flaming, post only once and move on.

discoDSP: never post in forums about your products

You won't follow my advice, but, there it is.

'Constructive dialog' no doubt includes taking criticism.
But there are those running businesses who have trouble separating their emotions from their business and take criticism personally. People either buy your product or they don't. If something is not working try something else. Feelings should not be part of the equation, ever.

I think it's time to give it a rest. Every point has been made and whether George eventually changes the upgrade price or makes improvements users like enough is up to him.

Posting my vid one more time since the other thread was locked:

I don't understand the rant, when I install a new version of a synth, I expect it to sound the same as the previous version :x

Well let me just quickly summarize it for you and everyone else and then I will most likely be done with this (maybe):

Version 8's main attraction is the "significant milestone in sound quality improvement". It now has "refined" oscillators, "improved" distortion models", and "updated" filters. Maybe you didn't hear "the advanced sound enhancements" of V8 in the video or the V8 demo because you are one of those users who "might not fully grasp the nuances of audio technology."

Other than "the 2x improvement in sound quality", there really is nothing new, except for some sounds that were broken out into individual presets and categorized by type.

All that for just $75.

In my account at DiscoD$P Is see this:

Discovery Pro € 219,00 € 78,04
30% discount for 2023 license owners!
Virtual Analog + Wave Synthesizer featuring 8 VA oscillators + 4 WAVE oscillators, unison, multi layering, 2x oversampling, unison edit, built-in arpeggiator, sync, FM, 12 filter types, panning modulation, stereo delay, gate effects, graphic modulation. Imports and exports Nord Lead 2 and 2X

There is a strikethrough over €219.

ehhh?

Since WHEN was the price 219 euro?..... NEVER! it was €149 mostly (a bump to €169 last month for trickery).

To whoever wrote DiscoDSP maybe deserve whats coming, YES they do !!!
30% of 219 euro is definitely not 78 euro :)

Post

Yesterday was 149 and now 219 euros... no words...still 149 on the resellers
