I downloaded and installed version 8.1.

I guess we won't be getting this info from the developer anymore, so here is the change log from the manual:

Release 8.1
● Added Discovery Pro Sound Expansion to the registered version. This expansion enriches your sound library with 330 high-quality commercial presets, offering a wide range of sonic possibilities. Details of the included banks are as follows:
◦ Essentials Sound Bank: A versatile collection featuring 5 Sequences, 13 Basses, 26 Leads, 18 Pads, and 2 Percussion Kits.
◦ Leading Sound Bank: A comprehensive set of 128 presets, including gated sounds, leads, pads, basses, keys, and effects.
◦ Pad Love Sound Bank: A specialized selection of 80 presets, dedicated entirely to pad sounds.
◦ Reaching The Stars Bank: An exclusive bank with 58 top presets for Discovery Pro, meticulously crafted by Mario Fest.
● Linux build.
● Relocated new VA Oscillator's HD Waves resources, resulting in a much smaller installer.

It would have been nice if the DiscoveryPro81.exe installer had placed those new presets in the correct folder though...

I found them in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\discoDSP\Discovery Pro\Discovery Pro\
So I had to move them up to C:\Users\<username>\Documents\discoDSP\Discovery Pro\ to actually see them.

Judging by their current release schedule, that will probably be fixed in a v8.2.0 update, probably released in a few days. :hihi:

DiscoDSP about 8.0 release:

"Expanded Preset Library: Dive into a world of sonic exploration with our expanded preset library, filled with fresh and inspiring sounds"

Main site still unchanged, but we never saw any fresh new sounds.....

But now with the 8.1 release they added some 10 years old preset banks!?

Are these the perfect fresh addition to showcase the new refined dsp improvements? :)

They're handling this very poorly. I mean, they couldn't screw this up even more, right? At least they haven't sent out threatening emails to people telling them if they don't take down their posts they might ban you from their services.

OH WAIT.

Are you serious or joking? Did you get a threatening email from DiscoDSP? :?
Yes. They want me to take down the post where I show the price of my update because apparently, that was a "private offer". The offer was "tailored specifically for you, based on our mutual understanding of confidentiality and trust in our business relationship."

Didn't ask for one, I haven't been communicating with them, so...

Then it ends with:

"Please understand that if the post is not removed, we may have to consider further actions, including a potential suspension of your services with us."

Post

Admittedly, I found the 'protest' a bit to exaggerated. At the end of the day, it's anyone's free decision to update or not.

But this reaction is the pendulum's extreme from the other side.

Wonder, if it will make history as the "Plugin War on the fields of KvR". :D

legally, they don't have a leg to stand on. even if the email was prefaced with "any offer we make is confidential" if you didn't have to ability to agree to those terms first, there's no way they could make that binding (though they might have more success at making it stick in the US than in Europe).

but it's very similar to the licence and upgrade bans handed out by refx: it's potentially expensive to fight and any damages you might wind up winning in the end would be minimal. so, they try it on.

however, the more people know about these tactics, the worse it gets for discodsp reputationally...

This is one more example of why I don’t use challenge/response authentication. Threats like that mean nothing to me. Once I have my copy of the software and my serial number it would be really hard for anyone to stop me from being able to use the software that I paid for, any time I want. Yet there are those who have no problem with C/R authentication, which I simply cannot understand—problems like these keep cropping up over and over and yet peopke never learn. Interestingly enough, challenge/response authentication is a listed “feature” of the Discovery Pro 7.x series. You can go back up to my post of all the 7.x series updates (in the previous, now closed thread) to see where it was added. Or, you can go to DiscoDSP’s News page on their site, and scroll through and see it there as well. To me, it is definitely NOT a feature.

Of course not!

And it's not like they proactively sent me an email saying "hey - we're sending you a private offer. check your account and please treat it confidentially."

But apparently according to THEM, there is a "mutual understanding of confidentiality".

Yes.

Serial makes no difference from C/R.... Your serial can be revoked (blacklisted) for next update, and you are stuck with the version you got. Anyways, I was also threatened by DiscoD$P.

I tried to reply, but I could not as they have disabled that feature. In this case I saw no other option than to report this to KVR (I am still waiting for them to get back to me)

I can understand the situation is not nice for discoDSP, but this shady biz tricking customers and giving them lies should not be accepted, nor tolerated.

Honestly i don´t give a #### if they lower themselves to actually revoke my license. What company would sink that low??

Not likely. George pulls stunts like these about every other year. It’s been going on for years. Somehow, George pulls through again and again, and life goes on. Reason and accountability in DiscoDSP died with Arguru. George deserves to make a living, but he’s his own company’s worst enemy. Entrepreneurs could learn volumes by studying DiscoDSP threads on KVR and learning how NOT to run a business.
