Dizzler - yes I have that standard issue that the thread is about. Thank the good lord, Spectrasonics have now finally repro'd, so no need to do any more tests on that one!
DizzlerMusic wrote: Sat Nov 25, 2023 3:39 pm Could you maybe test if you have the Mseg editing lags aswell (that i have?). Its easy to test: Just go to the mod env and change all points to linear(just use 3-4points), then take 1 point and drag it around from left to right, up and down. It should feel snappy as its intended, the points are at all times where my cursor is. Now when i change all points to either curve1 or 2, and try the same, it lags behind alot, it freezes the whole UI and drops FPS for me down to 5. Even the zoom scrollwheel is laggy then.
Just tried on the Macbook M2 following your steps and all is well here. Next time I'm at the main Windows rig I'll try the same thing.

OK, tried it just now on Win 10 hosted in Cubase. On 5 curves, I do get a little lag, but it doesn't sound anywhere near as extreme a problem as yours - maybe half a second tops. What is interesting though is that it does max out my CPU, in much the same way that scrolling, changing parts etc does.

It might be a bit hasty to say its linked to the main issue of the thread, but it's not impossible.

FYI there was an Omnisphere update a few days ago and one of the changes in the changelog was fixes to UI performance on Windows.

Indeed... load a preset is much faster and smoother than before

Oh fantastic - it's out. I tested the betas and the last version made a big difference to me. Not absolutely everything is resolved but it's massively better for me. I know they want to keep working on it.

And the irony is - I'm just migrating to a new rig. The performance is as quick as my macbook. Is that because of the new version or was it always going to be that quick on a different rig?

The point is that not every Windows rig was affected, and there was no solid predictor. Some lucky Windows users have been snappy since 2016. My old rig sure was affected, I don't know if my new one would have been.

The latest update fixed it completely indeed. The UI has been changed, looks sharper and runs very smooth now.

Ironically now my PC version looks sharper than my Mac Version running on the same monitor (same brand and model) at the same resolution :).

Omnisphere now feels like a hardware synth here on the new Ryzen 9. Every patch - even the largest - plays instantly. I have circa 10,000 third party patches too.

I have a large T500 boot drive and my STEAM folder was on a Crucial P3 NVMe. I benchmarked both, and the T500 was a massively faster on the 2nd CrystalMark test - like 10x faster. That prompted me to install the optional Windows driver for the P3 (Crucial say you only need it if you are experiencing any isssues). That did make it much better, but it was still considerably slower than the T500 which is just a faster, better drive. So I moved the STEAM folder there and that's the amazing hardware-like performance I'm now getting. The biggest patch is the C7 grand - 20gb IIRC - it plays instantly, and finishes background loading in 10s. On the other NVMe drive, that patch took 40s.

Spectrasonics support told me that the 2nd and 4th CrystalDiskMark tests are the ones to look for performance-wise, that's very good to know and I'm sure that will apply to most sample streaming plugins.

Given all the struggles, playing Omni now makes me weep for joy every time. Amazing timing for me that they fixed the coding problem at the same time I got a new rig.

Unfortunately the update didn't fix it for me, oh well. Still happy they're workin on it.

Darn, you're the only one I've heard that hasn't seen an improvement. I'd contact support so they can send you betas and you can feed back.

I also opted to put STEAM folder on C: because its 7300MB/s read speed instead of D: which is SATA SSD.
Only the largest presets now take like 1 to 3 seconds to load. Great.
