My favourite "tape echo" is free. Not an emulation of the Roland 301, but of the WEM Copicat IC-400, an earlier predecessor. I think the Wavesfactory Echo Cat models the same unit and has a few extra features, but for basic authentic tape echo sound, the GSI freebie is perfect!

When speaking about colourful tape echos that you want to hear and use like an instrument, not just used to add a bit of delay for a main sound, Audirotity should be checked. It sounds stupid, but it doesn't sound like a plugin to me. Especially Echoes T7E mkII but PlexiTape is good too.

Pulsar’s Echorec is amazing. Probably my favorite too, but not a Space Echo emulation.MogwaiBoy wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:55 amTrue - shows what I knowjamcat wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2024 6:26 am Softube Tape Echoes is closer to an Echoplex than a Space Echo.
Valhalla doesn't have a Space Echo emulation either.![]()
Hey, probably my favourite "tape delay" is Pulsar Echorec, which is magnetic rotating drums but sounds tapey enough.
Never really liked the spring reverb on a Space Echo.

The Swell mode on that thing is so awesome.. Made me instantly think of Pink Floyd with Syd playing Interstellar Overdrive heh. I don't remember why I picked that one over the Audiority when I bought it but, totally worth it if you like Echorecs (and can't afford $3K for a real one).MogwaiBoy wrote: Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:55 am Hey, probably my favourite "tape delay" is Pulsar Echorec, which is magnetic rotating drums but sounds tapey enough.

Speaking of Audiority...

So I take it that is the "something grey, old, three letters followed by three numbers" that you've begun working on, and not an MXR 117?
(Hopefully you'll still do the M-117 too!)

since BF-2 flanger was discussed and "in the meantime I should start with another one I got here", the "grey, old, three letters, three numbers" gotta be MXR 117, as in "I should start with another flanger I got here".Let's see if I can score a MIJ BF-2 on January

Them buggers blindsided you not just with RE-501, but with Quantec Room Simulator as well (Savant Audio, then Relab).

The Gearsputz are saying the Nembrini doesn't sound or act much like a real RE-501. Which isn't terribly surprising.Mr Arkadin wrote: Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:46 pmI'd still buy your version as well![]()

Yeah, but since when that place is the source for expert opinion? Did anyone actually provide any A/B blind tests? Dev won't do it, but if someone claims something's off, that responsibility becomes his.
I saw one dude decide it sucks merely by watching a video? Really? No one bothers to trial anymore? I feel bad for the devs, you know. You spend a year or two working on a plugin, then someone watches a few seconds clip and says "oh no, this is the worst thing since Nixon's presidency". C'mon man. At least trial the friggin thing before shooting dev in the head. It's ridiculous.
All real experts left Gearslutz (when it was still called that) long, long time ago, too long to remember now.
