I still ride a fader sometime rather than use a compressor, not just to keep dynamics, but it somehow feels more natural and everything is to ear!

Granted that's how automation was done in ancient times but you're almost certainly going to get better quality by editing.
Define better quality.

More precise? I would agree. More flowing and in a musical groove? Then realtime 'playing' works better for me.
Well you can play it in real-time for a flowing and musical groove and then fine-tune it to enhance the flow and the musicality (among other things). That's what I do with MPE synth automation for example.

Now I'm wondering whether I can have Ableton treat a specific note/octave value+Slide (Y axis) combination as a slider for a specific parameter---"if note/octave value is X, then map Slide for that note to parameter" to record automation---if so then I should be able to turn every keywave on the Seaboard into a slider for a different (set of) parameter(s). Pretty sure I could do it in Bitwig with the grid....

My experience with editing is that I quickly start to lose/interrupt the feeling of the original recording. That is why I stick to minor edits and mostly re-record parts.

What are you referring to with Performer?

Performer is a part of the new Performance Pack by Iftah included with Live 12:

Yes, that’s it, great video! Variations seem to be a cool tool as well, but it‘s quite buggy at the moment.

So, it's a little quiet in Ableton land. Latest beta build almost 1 month ago (though still with a long list of bug fixes). But the early 2024 projected release date still stand. I wonder if they are preparing for imminent release, or rather a long beta testing period is still pending.

Good. However, there's still many people who have never been given the chance to beta test Live 12 :(

Not sure how PUSH 3 SA will be updated when Live 12 drops, but it works as a control surface for 12 in controller mode (including Roar and Meld etc)

I know its a Live and PUSH 3 thing, but that new performance pack turns the PUSH 3 in to a fully configurable performance surface for Live, cc or even CV...nice little addition to 12.
