I know it's different, but have you looked at shaperbox? https://www.cableguys.com/shaperbox

It obviously can do several distortion modes ( and filter, including drive there). But now it can also load impulse responses. The impulse responses from Trash2 are actually just standard .wav files, so you can also load them in Shaperbox.

Some things Shaperbox cannot excactly do like Trash2, but it can do quite a lot of other nice things that Trash cannot do!

This is a good suggestion. On that note if what you're looking for is a really comprehensive multi-fx plugin in the vein of Shaperbox with lots of different types of distortion, Devious Machines Infiltrator 2 is that, and in some ways even more. Shaperbox does a bit better in adding multiband to pretty much everything, but Infiltrator does stuff that even shaperbox doesn't

Honestly I'm not sure I've I know of another FX plugin that offers as much as Infiltrator does unless you count things like Shaperbox and all the Kilohearts modules in multipass as one plugin. But then those things all have discrete components that you have to buy separately if you don't get a bundle all at once. Infiltrator is just one purchase (and really good bang for buck at that) for 20 some effects, all with MSEGs, an effectrix/glitch2 style sequencer, midi triggering, envelope followers, and more

I believe some of the algorithms have been incorporated into NIs Guitar RIg 7 so that could be a contender, with all the stuff in there now it's quite the fully featured multi-effect.

Trash 2 was a great concept, but the UI needed some work. Not sure why iZotope decided to abandon it instead of just making some basic usability improvements.

Minimal's Rift has become my go-to plugin for distortion FX. Fantastic plugin for creative distortion.

Shaperbox is actually a pretty good suggestion. Not exactly the same but a lot you can do given all the shapers

Btw. some of Trash 2s distortion Algorithm have been moved to the Neutron 4
Exciter Module, see https://www.izotope.com/en/products/neu ... citer.html.

So if you're looking for that very particular sound of the distortion only, this might be interesting.

Shaperbox is great but for constant distortion I mostly use Saturn.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread - for me Rift is the closest to the spirit of Trash 2 although it doesn’t do convolution.

Blue Cat's Destructor is better than the Trash 2. It is also the closest workflow and feature wise.

Yeah, I have heard many good things about Blue Cat's Destructor. Seems like the closest thing to Trash 2. Not super popular, it seems, but people who use it love it.

Unfiltered Audio's Dent, Arturia's Coldfire, Waves MDMX and Berserker plugins or an amp sim will get me most of the way there, especially if I use them in something like StudioRack. Then it's just a matter of an employing some eq, compression or using some kind of convolution plugin if I haven't used an amp.

It's not the same but they inject a different kind of vibe on their own accord, but I see that as a good thing.

Heavyocity have new convolution plugin out called Vast that seems like it would be really awesome to use in this context. Although if NI/iZotope happen to release a next-gen Trash I'll be all to happy to get back into that too.
