Ugh, this is one way that Ableton is just as bad as some other companies when it comes to upgrades. There is no open public beta when they offer the discount on upgrades, you're expected to, (if you didn't get in the beta pool), just rely on the new release to be what you want and stable based on description and anecdotal evidence from other users in the beta. It's just, kind screwed up to do that to people.

I honestly believe Performer is the most undersold Live 12 feature. I don’t think it’s a nice little addition, I think it’s pretty huge. YMMV, of course, but hear me out

Basically it turns Live into a kind of Octatrack on steroids, just without scenes and a crossfader, but with your own plugins and a midi controller of your choice. Play around with the curves (or not) and you get crazy variations with a single turn of a knob. Also, you don’t even need a controller, as you can automate everything — up to eight parameters in a single lane.

I haven’t gone through the whole process myself yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s possible to create a whole track out of a simple loop and a few clever Performer assignments and curve settings. In any case, I’ve started to think differently on how I modulate/automate, and how to use Performer in the context of an arrangement.

There’s a but, of course: you can’t easily assign several m4l sources to a single parameter, meaning, you can’t use Performer knob 1 to modulate a synth parameter in a certain way, and use Performer knob 2 to modulate the same parameter within a different range, for example. Octatrack can do this, in a way. But I can live with that, and there are workarounds.

Anyway, Performer is great, and I’m not even sure I’ve fully understood all the implications of it :hihi:

I don’t think so, there are still lots of bugs present, even at least one Ableton has marked as duplicate. Live 11 beta was far more polished before release. Or maybe I just got lucky :)

But I really don’t understand why Ableton hasn’t opened up the beta for everyone. At this point it’s simply unfair.

With Bitwig you have to pay every year (have an active upgrade plan) to access the betas….but you will have access if you pay!

I don’t think you get any beta access at all with Studio one or Cubase….it just comes out!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I find it sad that, even when I actively beta tested Live 11 and prepurchased Live 12 (it's ready to go in my account waiting for a release), after 2 months since beta started and almost time for official release, I still cannot access Live 12 beta. I had to try it elsewhere, but not fully test it on my machine, which is something I was really willing to do.

The discount is available for the pre-order.
For a limited time:
Pre-order Live 12 Suite and save 20%
It says nothing about a 20% discount after release. The 90 day trial is not Live 12, so no, unless they decide to extend the pre-order discount past the release, you cannot demo Live 12 and get the discount without being part of the beta.

Do they actually force you to pay for Live preorders? Looking through my email, for the 11 preorder they sent me an order link on release and nothing was forcing me to actually use it if I didn't want to. You might even be able to grab the demo before you commit, although I'm not sure about that. At the very least you can see what state the final version is in before buying it.

Folks, listen is it possible now to set up a default track volume for a MIDI Track without adding additional device on it? Like it can be done for Audio Track.

I don’t know what the criteria for getting in the beta is but I’ve been lucky enough to get in with both 11 and 12 pretty early. I can say that they are probably swamped with requests for beta access so it’s always best to join as soon as they announce the public beta as you are more likely to be accepted I think.
