Firstly thanks a lot to Richard and Brian for organizing the challenge.
Hearty Congratulations to ZioMau, gethiox, zarf, carl and NeuKatalYst. Also to crispy, but he got DQed unfortunately. Best wishes to everyone who participated this round and made a lot of diverse and nice music.
As my prize I would like the 12 months subscription to SoundGym please.
Thanks, and hopefully see you all next time.

Congratulations to everyone who got high scores! I was delighted to find that my entry was the first to be ranked above the bottom 10!
Edit: I found out that my track for the Surge XT challenge, "Remnants of Spring", is in the 6th lowest position (50/55). So my entry for December's challenge was not the first to be above the bottom 5.

Hi guys. Just some questions with a couple WRT the front page of the challenge:
1. It says ("...Vaporizer 2 is a free open-source software synthesizer for Mac and Windows. with 2 wavetable oscillators plus noise and sub...") that Vaporizer2 has 2 wavetable OSC, but does it actually have four?
2. Second, it says that 'Exponent1' won, but in the list, there is no 'Exponent1'. There is, however, 'The Exponent' with the 'Drop' tune.
3. For those who used it in the Challenge, what do you think of Vaporizer2 in and of itself and, say, compared with other wavetables, such as Serum, MassiveX, Vital or others?
I'll also go over the threads as well.

1. It's possibly a typo. But yea, Vaporizer2 actually has 4 Wavetable OSCs, 1 Noise OSC and 1 Sampler Module. So 6 in total. I think V1 had 2 OSCsBorbolactic wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 11:00 pm Hi guys. Just some questions with a couple WRT the front page of the challenge:

2. exponent1 is the KVR username, 'The Exponent' is the pseudonym I use everywhere else. I can't change the KVR nick so that's that.
3. In my opinion Serum and Vital are a lot faster to use and simpler. Vaporizer has a lot of potential and power, but the tab layout can be a bit fussy at times, when you have to quickly switch across the modulators. That said, it's quite efficient and I had lots of fun with it.

Compared to other wavetable synths, it has my favorite wavetable editor, with quick and easy abilities to apply changes to each cycle you draw or drag from single cycles, as well as the ability to use algorithms to make whole tables out of only one frame.Borbolactic wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 11:00 pm Hi guys. While we couldn't use it for the challenge per the rules, the granular portion of the Sampler is also very nice and good to layer with the other oscillators and/or noise, as encouraged.
Finally: most of the effects are nice - the Atomizer in particular stands out. All the others are pretty basic or unintuitive (the multiband compressor, for example), but with the ability to do three separate effect chains with low-mono capability, I'll forgive it that much.
For the future, I'll definitely continue using it to create wavetables, at least: as mentioned already, its wavetable editor is it's biggest standout, literally.

Out of mere curiosity may I ask why I was dq![]()
Haven't touched yet VITAL but so far Vaporizer 2 is by far (imho) the most complete wavetable synth I used in the freeware domain. You can go anywhere with this beauty and to be honest I don’t think I used all the 4 OSCs for any patch if I remember well. I mean one of my favorite patches is just one OSC in Unison an FX Chain plus subtle WT modulation here and there.
4 OSCs, independant FX chains, great Wavetable Editor, hugely automatable... Pretty awesome synth. It's sound is maybe a bit "sterile" but nowadays you can make anything sounding exactly as warm or cold as you want with the plethora of plugins out there.
So Marcus thanks a lot for giving this awesome synth for free and for your continuing support.
I hope with this OSC we all did our small thing to broaden the user base and show a bit the capabilities of Vaporizer 2.

Thanks so much everyone for votes that got us to where we can take a prize, plus all of your generous and helpful commenting on our track. Very much appreciated!
Carl is not currently suffering from GAS - so we have agreed that I'll take the prize
I would love a copy of Bioscape please - that would be amazing! Thanks so much
(p.s. Richard, Brian - a gentle reminder in case this has dropped off radar - I've not heard anything about last month's prize yet. Sorry to bother if this is already in process - I'm waiting patiently and gratefully
