I got this with a bundled purchase years ago and never bothered to install it until yesterday. I assumed because of its age it couldn't be all that great, then come to find out this 20 year old plugin blows both Arturia and Cherry's versions out of the water! Arturia's 2600V has lots of powerful extra features, so I have no intention of parting with it, but for convincing 2600 sounds, I feel WayOutWare's version wins hands-down.

As for Cherry's version? For the price it's a good learning tool with a few extras added on, but I find the sound quality lacking, and there's no polyphony option. Dedicated 2600 freaks will want either TimewARP for accuracy, or Arturia's version for the extra sound design functions.

It's not difficult to blow the cherry 2600 out of the water

It's still a VST and does not compare to a real ARP 2600.

I understand that lol. But for a VST, I'd say this is the one to get.

Now... When I listen to the Moog Mariana with Audeze lcd-x's. I haven't done a side by side comparison yet but it blew me away and sounds super thick and analogue like. I compared it to Diva and Diva was actually missing something in comparison. Would really like a second opinion though. I will check out TimewARP!

Interesting. Can you be more specific as on what it gets right relative to the others or is it just overall better sounding to your ears? Do you have a real 2600 or clone available?

Wayoutware was bold enough to publish A/B comparisons with original Arp Hardware, oscillators, filters etc.

i have a behringer 2600 and way out ware has nailed it - it sounds the same, but Arturia and Cherry Audio neither come close to arp 2600

I don’t believe that there is a good 2600 emulation, yet. That said, it has nothing to do with software not being up for the challenge. While not sounding alike in character, you could absolutely make a “2600” in Softube Modular. It’s going to have Moog, Sequential, or Roland sounding oscillators and filters, but you could definitely get the functionality and of a very good quality.

I’m actually surprised that Softube hasn’t done a 2600 yet, or that Arturia hasn’t brought its old plugin up to date.

Arturia's got those killer features, no doubt. Cherry's is decent for learning, but the sound quality falls short.

They all fall short when you route the filter output into the preamp and back .
All of these youtube comparisons only showcase the most fundamental stuff , an osc ..some filtering .S-H on the filter ..blimey ..and they get excited on how accurate it sounds ...lol
They're either payed shills for mediocre companies or total noobs

They could do a 2024 virtual 2600 justice

Nice to see that at least someone else has figured out that 'old' does not equate to 'bad'. If more had the courage to test in such manner there would be much dismay about modern plugs other than they are inefficient compared to older plugs...

Along those lines you should also check out the Arppe2600va it's pretty damn good, free & old-

The GUI size is reasonable, I prefer smaller than that-

Recently rediscovered the Klangformer Synth which made it to public beta, It's pretty fantastic too for a 20 year-old Synth I really like the compact size-

And for a public beta came with a buttload of presets-

No folks if it sounded great back then it still sounds great now sure there were some krappy but that still stands today. Steinber-Wizoo XPhraze is never gonna sound bad because of age & will never be 'obsolete'. Same with first version ImpOSCar which sounds just as good as current, Just current has fancy browser & more presets & a few other options folks it's all about SELLING, not the sound... Mesmerizing the populace is a marketing tool>>>
