You need Alpha Juno 1.Vectorman wrote: Sun Jan 28, 2024 5:52 pm I'll probably get rid of my Alpha Juno 2 and Korg Nautilus (both of which I seldom seem to use) to make room for a JT-16 and Wave when those finally become available.

I bought a Model D from a shop and ended up with 2 on the day the ordered one was ready for pickup
Found a good deal on a Model D + Wasp Deluxe and the 3tier rack used so when i was driving home from that sale the Second Model D was ready for pickup and ready to be put in the rack

How does the TR-8S CR-78 compare?

In all honesty, I do not find that virtual analog fully satisfies me when it comes to bass or bass drums, and that includes Roland. Does it sound great? Sure, and probably not noticeable in a mix.

Good to know. Maybe pair it with an Mbase or Volca Kick? I tried to find a good Mbase demo to post but everybody seems to be trying to get 909 out of it. When I used it, I thought it was better for 808/CR-78 kicks.

Whatever works really. I'm more interested in modern sounds rather than recreating classics, so I have my eye on the Syntakt. But personally, I'm a bit fond of that TT-78 bass drum, in that demo anyway.

Whether this is interesting to me is related to whether or not it supports xox style programming of the patterns while playing. In other words, can I switch from write to play while it's playing, change patterns, then switch to write and edit the patterns. That's what makes boxes like this to me interesting. That's why I have an RD-6. I like all of the old-school lofi analog instruments, except for the bass drum, but, they're nothing but twin-t circuits and noise generators. I find samples are ok for the most part, but the value of this is that you have volume knobs and a sequencer and this allows for nice real time performance aspects, but only if you can navigate the sequencer in a seamless xox style.

From what I recall, I got the Alpha Juno around 2018/19 because I figured with prices on the Juno 6/60/106 going through the roof, the Alphas would probably go up next, so why not snag one for cheap while I still could. Somehow I just never got that excited over it. I can just as readily pull up my Goldbaby Juno 6 Kontakt library or Softube Model 84 when I want a hint of Juno flavor in something. In hindsight, I should've just kept the Juno 60 I got for $750 back in 2009 - at least that had a more inviting interface and is more of a classic, I suppose - but I had gotten a bit bored with the sound of that as well.
