:LAST EDIT: I went with a Novation X-Station. I made templates which can be found on the kvr Page for Arturia Synthi V, under the downloads section.

Does anyone know of a midi controller with a similar joystick or XY control? I’m using an iPad with lemurr by liine, but it’s a little iffy and I’d like to experiment with actual hardware. I’ve seen people talk about yamaha sy-22/35 but I don’t need another synth in my collection and they’re expensive.

So far I'm considering an old Novation Remote.

::edit:: Sorry if this isn't the right form for this

I was thinking about one of these, but it’s pretty expensive.

For now I’ll stick to my Touché and the x-y on my Rise 49.

Buy a game joystick. There's all sorts of joystick-to-midi software out there that'll run on your computer.

Yeah, I saw some of those already, especially flight sticks. I'm not too familiar with those tho, and, unfortunately, many seems to be center sprung.

I've made a few other posts online, and people are telling me similar lol.

I saw this when I was looking, but the price is a little too steep for just a joy stick.

Those look nice, but I'm looking for a joystick.

So far it might be between that and the novation remote

I have an Atari 2600 type joystick for my Amiga 500. I wonder set if I could buy an adapter to get that to work?

Well, I have used a regular joystick with Virtual MIDI Controller to make X-Y combo pitch bend-modulation wheel events worked quite well better than using two wheels at the same time that's for sure. Of course you could pipe it into any other MIDI event as well. Virtual MIDI controller installs a MIDI Port so you don't need a MIDI Yoke or other. VMC does alot more than just that as well-

So, how does this work? Does it just run in the background and create a virtual MIDI source from a regular PC gaming joystick?

It creates a virtual MIDI port upon install so then you gotta restart to have it appear to your hosts as a MIDI 'INPUT' device... It then can be used just like an external MIDI controller but on the QWERTY now... Inside the many features it has a joystick input & it translates a regular gaming joystick to MIDI events which work best if you keep looping a sector to practice a bit then when ready record your MIDI mastery in the host that's it...

Anothet freeware alternative I have not tried is TobyBear's MIDI Control Center which is an external EXE that transmits fader crap, X-Y crap & has joystick feature but haven't tried it but I have assigned the sliders & X-Y quite a bit... You'll need a virtual MIDI port for this one like MIDI Matrix (now free) MIDI Yoke or other... Most modern links are 404 or older 1.7 version this is 1.8 direct link-

Following this thread in anticipation, as I've been looking for something for years. Not just for the Synthi (I forgot I have that!) but also the D-50, Prophet VS and all the Korg stuff.

Yeah that bespoke $300 is pretty out there although at least it does CV too. A little annoying that it uses a web app for configuration as well, as that means the site has to stay up, but it's not like Roland et al are great at updating their drivers long term either. Hm.

A product I have used in the past, if you're willing to give up manual control, is the pair of MIDI FXs by Dialog Audio, basically a couple LFOs, envelopes and sequencers with modular capabilities.
They look pretty fun in use too:

That joystick movement is questionable.

The original Novation Remote is fantastic because it's lain out like a real synth. If someone wants a hardware synth experience with plugins, it's one of the best ways to get there.

edit - It's the Remote 25 Audio that I was thinking of that's lain out like a synth. Also, X-Station, which is basically the same thing.
