At first I was all, “upgrade to Bitwig 5? Nope. Then I saw some cool stuff that showed what the new MSEGs could do in CLAP plugins and I was all… “sure, I guess so.”

"being teased" is called marketing. it is designed to do exactly what you fell victim to.
i'm not sure who you are blaming for that.

You're right, but, I don't have to buy. Thankfully.JamminFool wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:29 am "being teased" is called marketing. it is designed to do exactly what you fell victim to.

And, I think criticizing, and wishing for a different upgrade scheme is allowed as well.

i am addressing the issue of being "teased" to spend your money on something you really should know you may not "need", and then regretting it afterwards.
and how is it different with DAWs than with any item in which the consumer is tempted into the next version even though the current version works fine (automobiles, mobile phones, computers, etc.)

True. But yet, it's a concerning development, considering that there aren't many commercial DAWs out there which don't have that "I sell you feature bloat with every paid upgrade" scheme.JamminFool wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 10:17 amwho said it isn't allowed?chk071 wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:55 amYou're right, but, I don't have to buy. Even if you skip paid upgrades, one day you'll end up with a new version which is cramped full of features you don't need.

Some people just need to complain for whatever. Complain because it's never enough, and complain because it's way too much.

No, marketing is showing your new software version being used by some current star. Adding features to your software and charging for them is just software development. If they added something that you wanted and will make use of, well, I don’t really see a problem with it. Despite popular opinion, software development is difficult and time consuming. The people who do it deserve to make a living, just like everyone else. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it. I’m skipping Arturia’s V Collection X, as it has nothing new in it that I want. All the cute girls in belly shirts in the world couldn’t convince me to buy it, and I love cute girls in belly shirts.JamminFool wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:29 am "being teased" is called marketing. it is designed to do exactly what you fell victim to.
