What's the issue with this ? You can get pretty decent control from a PS5 or Xbox controller using the thumbsticks

You generally don't want the stick to go back to the center when you let go.Digivolt wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 6:05 pm What's the issue with this ? You can get pretty decent control from a PS5 or Xbox controller using the thumbsticks

The way they engineer the X-Y for Pitch Bend-ModWheel any movement FORE or AFT represents pitch bend on the Joystick from center zero whereas any movement from the CENTER of the Joystick in LEFT-RIGHT direction represents ModWheel from base zero so it is natural X-Y for such no problem...
One may think it would be poor quality but not at all & if you got a Joystick hanging around might as well use it. This is not a good example but back in 2015 did not have a MIDI keyboard other than big krappy cheap M-Audio with terrible wheels so tried the joystick thru Virtual MIDI Controller on pitch bends for fretless bass harmonics in an intro using Aodix & UVI Plugsound Fretted VSTi in a couple spots-

I think I'm going to that Novation controller when I get paid next. Plus it has a lot of programmable knobs and such.Uncle E wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 5:57 pmThe original Novation Remote is fantastic because it's lain out like a real synth. If someone wants a hardware synth experience with plugins, it's one of the best ways to get there.CingO0 wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 3:50 am Does anyone know of a midi controller with a similar joystick or XY control? I’m using an iPad with lemurr by liine, but it’s a little iffy and I’d like to experiment with actual hardware. I’ve seen people talk about yamaha sy-22/35 but I don’t need another synth in my collection and they’re expensive.
So far I'm considering an old Novation Remote.
edit - It's the Remote 25 Audio that I was thinking of that's lain out like a synth. Also, X-Station, which is basically the same thing.
Other people, on other forms, were recommending other hardware synths but I already have enough I don't use lol.

I wanted one with X-Y & smallish keys as space is an issue, Korg MC-1 microKontrol was perfect as it has THREE octaves not the usual 2 or jumping to 4... Had it now about 8 months good stuff...

The Remote SL is an excellent controller for hardware synths. That's why I got it, it sends sysex. I don't know if the Remote Audio's or X-Station's knobs are programmable.CingO0 wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 8:40 pm I think I'm going to that Novation controller when I get paid next. Can you disengage the spring on the joystick?eLawnMust wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:09 pm I wanted one with X-Y & smallish keys as space is an issue, Korg MC-1 microKontrol was perfect as it has THREE octaves not the usual 2 or jumping to 4... Had it now about 8 months good stuff...

Here I am having never used a joystick on a synth always thought they all returned to zero, I'm curious if there's sticks that aren't sprung, how does one reset it to perfect zero ?

Change patch. But this is for vector synthesis, where you never need perfect zero. If it’s a Roland-style pitch/mod stick, it has to return to zero. The thing about the novation remote is the spring can be disengaged, allowing it to be used either way.Digivolt wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 10:58 pm Here I am having never used a joystick on a synth always thought they all returned to zero, I'm curious if there's sticks that aren't sprung, how does one reset it to perfect zero ?

A Korg nanopad controller would do XY plus pads.

But I wish MANUFACTURERS listen as there is still a lack of good controllers on the market, and not just for keys players but also for guitar players. With all those amp sims coming surely manufacturers can realise tons of players play guitar with computers at home therefore can use their feet to do more than just switch channels....
Touche is great, OSMOSE too, love these things and wanna buy, but also need something cool for the floor that can take the midi pedal to a 3D level ...

Liking this; makes me wonder if the NTS-3 can do MIDI out. Unfortunately I don't see anything to that effect on its webpage or the SDK on Github.paramita123 wrote: Thu Feb 01, 2024 12:12 am A Korg nanopad controller would do XY plus pads.

You can perhaps do that by first going to a computer then sending back the midi out. If not convenient then there are USB to midi converters. Or perhaps look up second hand older Kaoss pads they might have MIDI.dumbledog wrote: Thu Feb 01, 2024 5:35 amLiking this; makes me wonder if the NTS-3 can do MIDI out. another option : find someone who's spent more than half a week working with arduinos. pay them to buy the parts ( a 2-axis joystick potentiometer and an arduino, possibly a leonardo since it can do MIDI over USB) and copy-paste some code.

An idiot on Set Theory:
