About 2.5 years ago I had a one year subscription and maybe 4 out of 100 plugins got some use, most of their plugins are less than mediocre, they don't even offer a decent reverb, that's weak!

Same here. The offers have become worse, and I find myself reaching for the same stuff all the time anyway. It's just too much choice.

its not only that but lack of oversampling, presence of aliasing.. there are a few nice plugins maybe -- but nothing that could not be substituted imo

i stopped buying anything plugins last year first half or so. im fed so to say. after ten years now i think its a normal process. the only things left from last years wishlist are u-hes filterscape and maybe mfm.
synths, definitely no more. daw, no more a few years ago. mix n master fx, no more.

I don’t buy things because I’m already pretty much covered. I still buy when my tools can’t do the job, or whenever a new tool brings some advantages…

Beside the cost, too many options can lead to a decision paralysis situation.

I still have a few hardware pieces in my wishlist (I don’t really need them, but I want them!), but I don’t need any flavour-of-the-day brand new plugin/hardware (and I rarely feel excited at the idea of spending money on new gear).

I can't and won't commit to not buying anything. I have a small set of tools (plugins) that I use for specific purposes, and try to avoid duplication. I don't "collect" plugins for presets anymore. I specifically try to have the right tool for the job, for whatever it is I do. That said, I am always on the constant lookout for better tools--better sound quality, easier to use, less hassle, etc. What I have so far been able to commit to, is to not buy anything that doesn't have my strict copy protection standards. I only use serial number or keyfile authorization, and with serial number or keyfile authorization, the plugins must not tie themselves to a particular piece of hardware or anything like that, and they must not have to call home for any reason. I should be able to copy my application and my serial number to my backup hard drive, and three years from now be able to reinstall it to my computer without any internet interaction whatsoever.

That said, I have found that I have a couple of areas that I may end up having to break my hard rules. I use Linux, and I have almost everything I could want, but there are a couple of things that are really exceptions:

1. My hands are giving me more pain these days, and I'm now on the lookout for the highest quality virtual guitar simulators, to replace my guitar usage when I don't feel like playing. I'm not talking amp sims, but rather, guitar sims. There aren't many high quality options for this in Linux, so I'm probably going to have to break down and use WINE and a Windows plugin. These available plugins use C/R copy protection.
2. My voice over the last 20 years has progressively degraded, and I seem to have more and more difficulty with controlling it. I'm not happy with my voice, and I've been really impressed with Synthesizer V. While there is a Linux version, the program itself uses C/R. There really isn't much in the way of competition for this spectacular plugin, so I'm likely going to have to break my rule for this one too.

Haven't bought any music software for a couple of years. I have decent amount of stuff already and I have kinda stopped caring about anything new.

If anything, I'd buy:
Full accurate emulation of Ensoniq Fizmo, MR/ZR, TS12 and DP4+.
Full accurate emulation of E-MU Proteus 2500 with all the ROM-s. Fortunately the Emulator X3 still works but its interface is rather small on modern day screens.
Full accurate emulation of Yamaha FSR1.

That's pretty much all the things I still would care about.
