Moog Mariana VST/AU/iOS Bass Synth

This synth is enormous fun with the moogerfoogers.

Any in particular you'd recommend for use with Mariana? Do you use them for FM?

Yeah. MF 107s FreqBox (Good for FM), the MF 105s MuRF and the MF-102s Ring Mod. The Mariana really expands the usage of the Moogerfoogers in general just as a modulation generator for the pedals.

I have the 102 and 103 and I was eyeing 105 and 107. I did pick up Mariana and really like it. Based on what has been said about the CV integration across plugins I checked to see if in Reaper they talked to each other. I saw a reference to the 102 i had open, in Mariana. So based on your post I picked up 105 and 107, already having 102 from a past PB deal.

Any tips on using the MFs effectively with Mariana? I haven't used Moogs virtual CV stuf before.

Just setup the modulators in the CV menu from Mariana and assign them to the CV inputs on the moogerfoogers.

Each Instance of Mariana gives you 6 LFOs, 6 envelopes and four random generators.

You can use the Envelopes, for example, to control the mix level of the moogerfoogers or the Lfos to control thing like the frequency in Freqbox or the Ringmodulator.

One really cool effect is to use a a low rate (1 bar etc.) mariana LFO to control the envelope size (ENV CV) in MuRF while a pattern is playing. Play around with the different LFO shapes.

I Just saw a video about the update that used the ipad version which made me curious.
It is a shame that i can't re Trial it to see how much it has been improved since v1 had insane cpu usage for a Mono synth and was in the same ballpark as the Softube Model 80 cpu usage and now it costs $99 instead of $49 so the improvements must be very good for me to buy it at that price.

I don't want to gamble now that it costs $99 but I would have bought it for $49 just to see how much it has improved over previous version.

This 'let's copy a hardware interface 1:1 to a plugin interface' style of working does not gel with me. I get it.. it's Moog.. it needs to look Moog. But it just is not a very efficient way of working in a plugin imho, nor are those big shiny knobs to the read-outs of the parameters they control in any kind of proportion that is kind to your eyesight.

Short answer: no

Longer answer: nonsense

For a modern Moog bass sound, this is much better than Diva or Arturia. For vintage Moog, Diva or Arturia are better. Ultimately they're just different. While Diva is somewhat flexible for vintage analog emulations, I don't think you're going to get it sounding like Mariana.

If you already have the MOOG FX plugins, that would be another game, because they can be closely connected with MARIANA. You'll have a comprehensive MOOG sound ecosystem.

For bass I strongly prefer Moog Mariana.

I don't like the vast majority of Diva's factory presets, even at Divine quality. I like Repro-5 and Repro-1 much better. There are some third-party Diva soundpacks that I do like.

Last I checked Arturia's synth emulations sounded substantially worse than U-he and some others. I got their vintage Minimoog v3 for free somehow and have never used it because it lacks MPE, but I do remember someone writing that v4 is better (still no MPE though). Synapse Audio is collaborating with Hans Zimmer for a new polyphonic version of their Minimoog emulation called The Legend HZ, and The Legend is already MPE compatible, so I might do a shoot-out with that and Arturia vs Diva pseudo-Minimoog.

Sound wise, I am also not always a fan of Arturia.
But regarding MPE, of course Mini V4 has MPE. All V collection synths have MPE (at least all the newer ones):
