I had installed MuseScore a long time ago, just to demonstrate it - but never really used it.

I just tried an experiment...
Created a simple 8 bar composition, with flute, voice, and cello. Pretty crude.
- exported to MIDI
- loaded with Waveform. via Windows file manager. Not sure why, but it picked the 32-bit version of Waveform 8 ??
- created a copy of good-old SFZ as the output device for EACH of the imported tracks. Tried to assign the first instrument, and it defaulted to flute. To my surprise, it default-assigned voices (correct instruments??) to all tracks that actually had content !
... and it actually played ! ???

Do multi-channel .mid files actually keep type references for "common instruments" and because I used a GM-standard .SF file it did map the instruments correctly ?
Waveform 13; Win10 desktop/8 Gig; Win11 Laptop; MPK261; VFX+disfunctional ESQ-1

The MIDi tracks often have CC data to set the proper instruments (Program Change) and a variety of other settings like volume and balance. Select a MIDI clip and open the MIDI Event List.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
