Alright, fine, it allows for a wider range of sounds, and it does sound pretty nice. BUT - when returning the pitch of the pulse wave back to 0.00 it does NOT bring the waveforms back into a solid phase-locked relationship.
You just have to hit another key ( pitch ) then they will phase lock again .
But yes , I think it's a small bug .
Hey, you're right!
My mistake was that I kept pressing the same note over again, listening for changes.

Overall I think this is a great emulation, and a useful and unique addition to the TAL collection.
About the envelope, yes, it's a little bit clunky, but I think that the unique oscillator+the multi-stage envelope were the two main selling points of the Alpha range, back in the day.
The little graphical representation in the TAL version helps a lot at keeping all the Ts and Ls straight.

The envelope simply needs a few minutes of study to understand it fully. It really is so much more flexible than a standard ADSR envelope and actually quicker to use than some graphical multi-segment envelopes.

Anyone who wants extra 'snap', a more 'cutting' attack, just work with the T2 and L2 stages.
Create a standard 'pluck' shape with the ADSR stages, and then lower the L2 stage to taste. This will immediately give a sharper attack. This works a treat with the LPF cutoff lowered, LPF ENV amount at max. Some really nice plucks and basses are possible here, stuff you simply can not get from Jupiter-8/Juno-6/JX8P. This is really unique to Juno1/2 in this Roland range.

Note that the first 2 stages are linear while stages 3 and 4 are exponential.

Post

Yep , and if you oly want to decay the filter uses the T3 sine that one is exponential
I think it's kind of funny when people complain about non standard adsr's because it gets them out of their comfort zone .
They would get a hart attack when confronted with the TG77 envelopes

TG77 envelopes! Now you’re talking! :D
Fond memories of editing these on my SY77 for many, many years!

You can buy the hardware for $400 here.
This has more features than the hardware, doesn't take up any space, sounds as good (if not better), and is $300-ish cheaper. Sign me up.
So not a good emulation then if it sounds better?
Could be any single oscillator software synth by your description.
It's a great emulation, as are his other ones. Extra features that the original doesn't have - hard not to sound better.

But hey man if you want to spend $400 and physical space on the hardware that has fewer features knock yourself out.

Yep agree on all points here.

Also the Alpha ENV when used as OSC mod, you can get very nice hoovers with the both attack stages , so not only whooooooooo, but whohoooooooooooo :D

I tried it out a bit more yesterday. My feeling went from "I don't need it" to "I will probably get it when it's on sale some time". Really sounds nice. There's something very pleasant with those filter sweeps.

TAL usually doesn't do sales.
But you do get discounts for buying multiple plugins at once.

Mh, k. Shame, but, I'll keep an eye on this when they sell it on Pluginboutique (usually a bit cheaper there).

Actually, they do. On Black Friday
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post

He does sales but they're likely not going to fall below the intro price. Have not seen the Juno fall below $60 ever for instance. Point being....you can wait for a sale and that sale will happen around Black Friday but it likely won't be cheaper than it is now.

Post

It is on sale (kind of).
20% Intro discount.

So - I did noise comparison today!

Here is WAV file, be careful for big noise!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BaDLDx ... sp=sharing
1st : my AlphaJuno2
2nd : TAL-Pha 96K (Tested in 44.1kHz too but there were no big difference)
3rd : TAL-Pha 96K + CraveEQ2's LP12 filter (I tried to match the freq response)
TalPhaNoiseTest.png
It looks like TAL-Pha's noise has more high freq than hardware.
TAL's MKS-50 hardware seems to have similar noise behavior to my AlphaJuno2.
His MKS-50's noise is more band limited than plugin, just like my comparison.
Check his hoover patch comparison (6:00~) : ttps://youtu.be/JhEUpwHcdPA?t=363

I think he can improve the noise osc freq range to match with his hardware :)

I also felt the character of noise has small difference.
My English is not good, how should I express the difference ...?
Hardware's noise is more metallic, or modulated... hmm, stop this :dog:
