Awful has never stopped developers from emulating anything.

I used to own a K1m from new which is the K4's little brother and it was a fine synth....back in the day.
Would a K4 be worth emulating in 2024? Perhaps not but if some people can lust after every dusty analog dinosaur ever created then others should be able to want an emulation such as the K4.
The problem would be nailing the sample content which Nils has pretty much done with his K1v emulation so he would be a logical candidate for the project.
Sadly at KVR when it comes to emulating a hardware synth that is sample based in any way the attitude is "meh any old samples will do" which is of course incorrect. All the while they are examining analog emulations right down to measuring the noise osc to look for any perceived inaccuracies in the emulation. I find that dichotomy baffling.
The K4 does have resonant filters and we all know how KVR is fixated on filters so maybe there would be some interest.....

It has some pretty nice atmospheric sounds. I look at K4 as if it were Korg M1 with resonant filters, it has a similar sorta flavor in the sample content and overall output.

Q80 or I quit!
K4 was my first synth. Sadly, it was between that and a Juno-60 for the same price and I chose unwisely. “Look how many sounds it can make!”

I also owned a Juno 60 and would have chosen the K1m over it at the time (and would today as well). I imagine even more so for the K4. I sold the Juno long before the K1m.

I loved my K4... for what it was at that time.
Also had a K1 before that... and a K5 module.

Does sound like a faulty M1 in need of repair. It actually has a bit of charm like something circuit bent but in a good way.EvilDragon wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 1:27 pm It has some pretty nice atmospheric sounds.
