This looks fun! I wanted to try the demo but it didn't work on my Mac (M1 Max macOS 14.3).

Only Intel Macs are supported at the moment. ARM core version support is coming.

This looks very interesting, like a much needed different modern take at a tracker workflow, downloading the demo as I write this.

But I am wondering, a lot of people like to use Trackers like Renoise in conjunction with other daws, but sadly ReWire is deprecated now. Are there any plans or just rough ideas on enabling a workflow where Precyne can work with other DAWs, be it via a VST optimized for use in DAWs like Renoise Redux or ""simply"" packaging the DAW as a multi-out capable plugin like FL Studio?

Obviously as this project is pretty new I'm not expecting any of this, and using virtual audio channels, for example via VB Audio Matrix/Coconut, a lot of cross-daw stuff is already possible, but I'm just wondering if any of this has been thought about or is in the realm of consideration.

That's all, I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on the development of this project either way

Do you have an eta of when the intel Mac version will be out of beta? Do you have an eta of when an ARM core beta will be available?

What are advantages of a tracker over something like FL studio?

To me trackers seems to be very complicated

Much better granularity but I guess this is debatable, for me it is, because I started with trackers back in 80's 😅😅🤌

There are no current plans to make specific compatibility features with other DAWs. This is because of the upcoming feature set that has been planned for Precyne, making the need to use other DAWs at the same time non-necessary even for those who might require it now. :)

Bold claim but I like the confidence! I pretty much expected the answer to be no anyway, but figured it's worth the ask to not have any false hopes etc. Anyway, the tracker + clip launcher + arrangement view in itself is a unique combo so I'm very intrigued by further features and how they'll be implemented.

To ask a different, more realistic question: Are there any plans to support the CLAP plugin format?

Besides being simply a good open format I'd like to see grow, I could see a tracker making especially good use of some of its features, like non destructive modulation or especially polyphonic modulation.

From a business standpoint it could also be desirable to support it as a newer DAW by bringing a desirable feature many more known daws (except Reaper.&.Bitwig) lack, as well as being more findable via lists of CLAP supporting hosts.

That said, I'm well aware that supporting another format isn't a simple thing you can just do overnight, so just like before it's a more a check on what we could expect

That's a great point, it doesn't get much more "tracker" than per-note automation on the same "instrument"

Agreed.

Kraku, would you be willing to receive input and ideas on the features you are implementing?
Just a consideration to avoid falling into the trap of one person's point of view most developers fall into as far as how features should be implemented to create a particular workflow.

IMO, it's more about being able to use all the great features in a DAW that might be designed more for mixing and mastering, like Digital Performer, Pro Tools, Cubase etc. I don't think anyone wants to load a developer down with a million requests for VCA Faders, articulation mapping, movie and sheet music support etc. but we do want to use those things at times. VST/CLAP plugin support would cover that and allow use to use a more entertaining and composition oriented DAW like yours. Count me in as someone who misses rewire for this very reason.

CLAP support is on the TODO list. Actually originally I wanted to first support CLAP instead of VST3, but VST3 was easier to get done in the time frame I had, so that's what I went with first. So CLAP is a future features, because of those exact reasons you already mentioned.
