Uncle E wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2024 6:59 pm Can we all agree that OB-E is daunting to look at? And that’s not just to beginners, if someone isn’t fully immersed in the peculiarities of Oberheim’s, they’re going to look at it and be confused about where to begin. They might even RTFM (gasp)!
Daunting not only in the amount of information displayed, but also in the fuzziness of the type.

Great sounding, but as pointed out on another forum

-Modwheel is hard-coded to vibrato. :bang:
-Modwheel can be assigned to other parameters, but remains mapped to vibrato which can't be removed.
-Vibrato knob doesn't move when automated by MW.
-CC mapping is global so can't be saved with patch settings. This also means none of the included presets have anything as basic/useful as MW to cutoff assigned.
-CC mappings can't be saved or loaded.
-There's no range so any mapped controls are from the min to max parameter value.

Such simple things shouldn't be so hard (or impossible) for something marketed as being EZ.

Let’s hope they fix all that in an update.

Well I snapped this up. I've been wanting one of GForce's Obie synths but couldn't really afford one.
For me this is great, I want the simple core tone, the presets sound great and tbh having access to filter cutoff, resonance and envelopes is fine for my purposes

JerGoertz wrote: Sun Feb 25, 2024 1:49 am Sorry if this was stated earlier, but does anyone know whether OB-EZ has any new presets compared to OB-E?
I don't think so - from the blurb it's meant to be a sort of 'best of'

Not when I do it -

There's not even a hint of anything else here.
Cue: the inevitable barrage of people asking why anyone would even use Bing.
I've been using it for 15 yeas or more. It's great and Image of the Day is the best way to start your day. We do a lot of image searches at work and Bing generally puts the best results nearer the top than Google.

This has come up before and I don't see any problem here. In fact, to me it is so crisp that looks like it's made with vector graphics -

What OS are you using? I'm thinking it might be the way yours renders the GUI.

Why would they when they can use it to get you to buy the full thing? It's obviously meant as a gateway drug into their more expensive Obies, a taster for what's on offer, not a full course.

Just reading some of the announcements on line, it seems that the ability to load OB-E presets is still in the works and should be available in "Spring 2024". I think that will make it a lot more useful. Even better would be the ability to load OB-EZ patches in OB-E.

OB-EZ patches to OB-E is what's coming in Spring, no mention of OB-E patches being usable in OB-EZ on the G-Force website, unless you've read something newer from them somewhere?

From the G-Force website:
"Import OB-EZ user presets in OB-E* (* available in Spring)"

I know it is global but you can defeat this.. set modwheel sensitivity to off.

Indeed.. afaik OB-EZ doesn't currently have an arp or sequencer so it can't read all OB-E presets anyway.

As it does not support MPE, the single module version is more interesting. I can load 8 instances and have each on a different Midi channel…

Post

Not with MPE, which uses all 16 channels on a single instrument. That's how it works. You'd need a separate MIDI port for each instance.

Here is a fun one, if you have bought OP-EZ and try to buy the OB Bundel (currently on sale) you get this!

"Oberheim - The Bundle" cannot be added to your cart. "Oberheim OB-EZ" cannot be purchased.

This is not for you 'EZ' user, this is for big boys!

OK, I added the last bit
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Or load 8 OB-E's and have 64 voices on 8 different midi channels. 8)
