As a complete beginner to audio production (looking to get into a new hobby), I downloaded Tracktion Waveform since that seemed to be a pretty solid starting point. At first, the application worked fantastic, and I started downloading plugins and spending more and more time practicing composing little practice projects.
However, seemingly without any significant setting changes, the audio stopped working. The recording will work perfectly, but when I go to play it back, the dB meter on the right hand side doesn't appear to be receiving any audio. Of course, this meant no audio was coming through (I tried with MIDI tracks run through a simple synth VST as well as raw recorded audio). I checked to make sure that my audio devices were configured correctly, and they were. I reinstalled the application, yet when I opened the app it was doing the same thing. I tried deleting the keyfile containing my email and reinstalling the application, which briefly worked, before the same error occurring. As of right now, I cannot use the software because this error prevents me from hearing any audio.

The welcome screen has dead center, Audio Settings, which allows you to select the primary device; and has a test button right beside it. What IS the device name, and what happens when you press test? You should hear a short sine wave...
Note that often the default device (and this depends on what device is selected) is opened in exclusive mode. If you have something else open that has the audio playing/playable (i.e. a browser on youtube...), then Waveform can't "allocate" that sound device ?
