The only audio mode that seems to be able to open output devices is ASIO. I don't know how good or bad ASIO is. In reaper I always used Windows Audio Exclusive mode. But in Waveform, in that mode, output devices won't open. Headphones and internal speakers both trigger a "could not open device" error message within Waveform.
Any idea what could be going wrong there?
Is ASIO fine? Should I just stick with that? (Funny thing is to my recollection, ASIO _didn't_ work in Reaper.)

My god.
ASIO plays back great, records awful (like, it just records static essentially, probably I'm doing something wrong).
Meanwhile, DirectSound plays back awful (lots of popping) but records wonderfully.
There has to be something to figure out here.
