I seem to remember reading that they had to build it from the ground up. Trash 2 couldn't just be ported for some reason.

I'm just taking it as a 'new' plugin. It's got a different tone to some other distortion plugins I have.
I added harmonics to Kick and Bass in parallel using Trash 3 and it glued and filled out the sound nicely.
Does it sound like Trash 1 and 2? I can't remember.

IIRC, trash 2 was built by the original iZotope team, which were uni graduates who are no longer on the team and and the source code could not be found. I might be mistaken with another company tho..Uncle E wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 6:57 pm I seem to remember reading that they had to build it from the ground up. I chalk it up to tech debt, original devs not being available for the task of porting, trimming it back due to elements of Trash2 overlapping with other products (multiband dynamics, delay), and limited resources for the entire project.Uncle E wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 6:57 pm I seem to remember reading that they had to build it from the ground up. I do remember someone here saying they talked to someone in support who knows someone on the trash dev team; the poster relayed ”old coding/programming habits” but that still isn’t something that would prevent a complete port.
I do want to see a fuller version of Trash, but I also won’t be too sad if this is it. This does focus Trash on what i loved it for; distortion and weird things. I occasionally to rarely used the pre/post EQ sections or dynamics… and when I did it was for basic tone shaping and limiting which vastly underutilizes how powerful the EQs, filtering, and comp/limit sections are in T2. Those are duties that could be absorbed by other stock or choice EQs … and I think that’s what Izotope is trying to encourage; “use our other products that specialize in EQ/dynamics.”
I can foresee custom waveshaping or a fourth band split being incremental updates…but I also don’t expect that anytime soon.

Ah, you are correct. I tried earlier and it didn't work, but I figured out that it was because I was copying a space at the end that it didn't like.MattLeschuck wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2024 9:01 pmTake the S/N from plugin boutique, add it in izotopes plugin portal, then go check the site, should show after that.zerocrossing wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2024 8:35 pm I think things are weird if you bought the Trash 2 upgrade from Plugin Boutique, like I did. I went to Izotope and they seem to have no knowledge of my purchase, but Plugin Boutique does. $29 for the upgrade. Not sure if I need it, though.

I've just got so many great distortions. The only thing this seems to do that I can't already do is the x-y thing, which I could set up with Bitwig if I wanted it._al_ wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2024 8:43 pmI'm just wondering if they're gonna start the progression all over again.
It really seems a bit rushed and buggy to me, so maybe there will be updates, and maybe new features added?
I don't really know how iZotope operate in this respect, as I only recently started using their plugins again, but I think I would regret not buying it, more than regret buying it.
For me, it's a decent £50 distortion, so I'm glad I got all the self-debating out the way

I'm in the same boat where $29 is very tempting, but I've already got so many distortion plugins, not to mention my go-to Elektron Analog Heat FX. Maybe if people would just stop talking about Trash 2, I'll forget that it even exists and save myself $29...

I had 4 bucks but coin I had forgotten about so I cracked and bought it (and I really didn’t need another distortion!)

removing the waveshaping option is a big big bummer for me.. also no dc offset kill anymore which was very handy at some times

Can anyone confirm if there is only one envelope follower globally or if there is one for each band if you use MB?
Also, any thoughts on comparison to fabfilter saturn 2?

The envelope follower is global. As for sound, its as good as saturn 2 IMO (i have also always thought Ozone and Neutrons exciter sounded as good as Saturn). That said, Saturn has much more functionality.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 10:28 pm Can anyone confirm if there is only one envelope follower globally or if there is one for each band if you use MB?

reading here, brings up the question to me, if they just took other Izotope code to create Trash 3 ? rather than working based on trash 2s remains.
jumped, since jrr.shops upgrade offer was too tempting.(and beeing on a Mx mac)
i like it. I found better access to it compared to Trash2. Quicker to work with, for me.
i had great sound results (kicks, whole drumbeats), but figured out everything was louder than vs. bypassed. Need to compare again.
CPU load is rather high ( too high for my taste)

Looks pretty good for a first release. Can't wait to see what they do for a version 2, or even version 3. Should be a beast by then.

I think the new UI looks much better.Harry_HH wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 5:20 pm The sound palette isn’t nearly what the Trash 2 with expansions can offer.
The UI is unelegant, unprofessional looking.
Would have thought they might include the expansions though... Pretty sure I got trash 2 quite cheap, now I wonder if I have the expansions or not....
