I'm curious, but are there VST2/VST3 to CLAP migration tools? Would that even be possible? If it's even possible, I'm not expecting to exist at present except for maybe Bitwig, but it's more of a question of "can it even be done".
Migrating VST2 to VST3 is replacing a dead thing for a stinky thing. I'd rather go VST2 to CLAP.

You can also vote in their centercode beta portal, or write to their support. As more people request, they will think about it

Entirely false. I have over 800 Apple Silicon VST2s, the vast majority of them commercial.jamcat wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 2:17 am Not to mention, anything that isn’t VST3 also isn’t Apple Silicon anyways, so I don’t think this affects any of us on Mac that much.

It seems, according to Urs Heckmann from U-he, that it’s possible (he did speak about that in another threadFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 4:26 pm I'm curious, but are there VST2/VST3 to CLAP migration tools? It's not really witchcraft. The VST2 to VST3 migration works just fine, wherever it works. We have huge customer base with NKS, and once we deployed it, it just worked. So our experience isn very good in that regard.Calagan wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 8:06 pmIt seems, according to Urs Heckmann from U-he, that it’s possible (he did speak about that in another threadFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 4:26 pm I'm curious, but are there VST2/VST3 to CLAP migration tools? Nothing speaks against doing the same thing with any plug-in format to any other. CLAP has a draft extension for this, but it has not been a priority afaik. I think it'll be more interesting once more host devs with multiple formats take part in the discussion and design of these things.
It would be great if all formats became interoperable in hosts that offer a variety of choices.

Sure! Why not just ask for peace on Earth and goodwill towards all? Seems about as likely.Urs wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 8:27 pm It would be great if all formats became interoperable in hosts that offer a variety of choices.
I kid, I kid...
It would indeed be nice if we could eventually get to that place.

My experience from loading songs cross-platform is that not all plugins are even compatible with themselves when going from Windows to MacOS and vice versa.

You're saying that you have ~800 commercial native Apple Silicon plugins that do not support VST3?teilo wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 6:38 pmEntirely false. No, he's saying he has >800 Apple Silicon plugins that ARE VST2. Your prior sentence reads like VST2 doesn't work on Apple Silicon, which isn't the case.

Like which ones? I do it all the time and there have been a few that had issues but at least those that I use are all fine.jamcat wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 8:56 pm My experience from loading songs cross-platform is that not all plugins are even compatible with themselves when going from Windows to MacOS and vice versa.
Which ones are still giving you issues?

bx_solo and Lindell 80 series.
I had to ditch both of them.
What happens is the settings are not compatible, most likely because the internal parameter names are different in the Mac and Windows versions. It's something that should be 100% avoidable, if the developer cared to be consistent. Once they've been released that way, there is no fixing them because a fix would break every saved instance for every user on one platform or the other.
I haven't tested all my plugins for this problem, these are just 2 that I came across in practical use. I wouldn't be surprised if there are others like that from Brainworx or Lindell, at the very least.

If anyone interpreted it to mean that, it was not my intention.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Mar 18, 2024 9:04 pm No, he's saying he has >800 Apple Silicon plugins that ARE VST2. Your prior sentence reads like VST2 doesn't work on Apple Silicon, which isn't the case.
What I said (clearly, I thought) was that practically every plugin that has been updated for native Apple Silicon has also had a VST3 version released. Because generally it's only old abandoned plugins that never got a VST3 version, and those plugins also never got an Apple Silicon version.
Chris understood that to be what I said when he corrected me that Airwindows are AS native but not VST3. However, Airwindows are fairly unique in that position. Also, they're not commercial.
