I have Icarus less than a year and won't upgrade (It's simply too high price imo) , I will focus more on Avenger and there's also more to expect (new features/new sounds) from Vengeance.
And in November Avenger 3 might be released and it will be worth the money for sure.

Bought VPS Avenger 2 recently and loving it
Icarus 3 doesn’t strike me as being much different, although it sounds delicious
I’ll pass for time being, my credit card is maxed out…

Avenger 2 and Icarus 3 are two completely different synths. I own both and love them both. They each have their place in my starting line up and will be heavily featured in future projects.
It took me two minutes with the Icarus 3 demo for me to decide the upgrade price was worth it but as always YMMV.

90 dollars seems like a fair price to me,Avenger 2 update was a similar price and was also worth it in my opinion. It’s great that a company like Arturia can give out every update of Pigments for free but I guess they can afford to do that. I think developers like Markus deserve to be paid for their work especially when it is reasonably priced. If I put in a year working on something and nobody wanted to buy it because they thought it was too expensive so they pirated it or simply didn’t buy it ,I’d probably find another line of work

Yeah, giving my opinion is entitled be cause it differs from yours. That makes total sense.RPH wrote: Sat Apr 06, 2024 8:08 amFeeling a bit entitled?briefcasemanx wrote: Sat Apr 06, 2024 7:45 am Even more insulting if I have to pay the same super steep upgrade fee as someone who got an older version free from a magazine.
For what you're getting it's not a large update fee, try getting that (update) feature list for the same price elsewhere. I gladly paid it, even to just support them.

I can't seem to find the link for the old presets that were eliminated. Seems like quite a few are missing from the Pads folder etc (I took screenshots of some of the old 2.5 folders to see which presets are new).
Am I correct in saying that on PC the Skin files are not available to the end user for editing? I'd like to make a few tweaks if possible.
All in all a very impressive upgrade and Icarus 3 will absolutely be one of my most used synths going forward.....
Custom skins are possible. I'll put some info into our company forum soon.
Excellent! i want to make/use custom skins
on other news.... my 1st preset on Icarus3, some sort of ethnic flute with 3 wavetable oscilators. no external fx just volume management:

Same thing with some External FX:

Calling the update policy an insult is not a normal or fair opinion.briefcasemanx wrote: Sat Apr 06, 2024 5:23 pm Yeah, giving my opinion is entitled be cause it differs from yours. That makes total sense.
Why didn't you just mail Tone2 about it? Instead you dumped it here, knowing what happened leading up to this release.

Dope flute,sort of ethno ambient
:):) Lately i am super enthusiastic about any ambient music.
Entire day working on first revision of my stuff and it seem there will be more presets - 550 so far, will add another 50 pads tomorrow.
If somebody wonder how could somebody even make and add 50 pads, well, they already exist.made a lot of stuff last two years for Icarus, now just select and upgrade best of them.
There is 3 folders with pads left to be checked tomorrow,if have energy an inspiration will make a quick demo.
Monday will upload 20-30 demo presets with some intro.
Icarus rocks,love this synth

So nice to have mpe back for the vst3! And nice that there is a vst3 only option now. Also great choice to have the icarus data by default installed to a separate program files folder rather than the plugin folder.

quick tip(s):
1 - aparently we can use granular modifiers with wavetables (1st time i see that).
2 - if ex: i wanted a brighter flute you can now add partials too besides chords to the wavetables.

If the upgrade price is not worth it to you, fine... no need for any drama. It's reasonable for the developer to ask it, reasonable for you to be unwilling to pay it, and reasonable that I was happy to pay it. There's no problem here.
I was happy to pay it because Icarus is one of the best synths available today and IMO, the best synth available today in terms of sound quality/versatility vs cpu use.

There's one huge difference between Avenger and Icarus though.. and that's the modulation matrix. In Avenger it is _extremely_ extensive with absolutely NO limitations. Icarus and all other Tone2 synthesizers it is exactly the opposite. It's very limited.Caine123 wrote: Sat Apr 06, 2024 8:27 am it is good that people also express their opinion about the upgrade price. i thought so too that this one might be too high, but the list and tone2's quality + no online DRM crap is for me more than enough! + tone2 vsts are so far rock solid. i love Avenger too but it is still so laggy and a slog and also got online drm. if tone2 synths would have some marketing like Avenger it would be more known as well i guess + more presets which blast the listener more. guess one key press presets are more convincing nowadays sadly. love icarus/tone2 and also love avenger but i would clearly choose tone2 synths atm but future is Avenger3 etc. is more possible so you get now what you pay for and thats a lot of different vsts from tone2 portfolio.
in the end, good to give feedback but now either buy or not buy. afaik upgrade prices dont go on sale, if they do just wait.
Even relatively simple things can not be done in Tone2 synthesizers due to the way the modmatrix is so limited.
Still, I agree with you. While the upgrade price does feel a bit steep, to me it's more "bang for the buck" than going from Avenger 1.xx to 2.xx, simply because of how immediate and awesome the basic sound output of Icarus is. And even with the very limited mod matrix, it's still a supremely capable synth with a huge range of sounds that can be done with it. The overall sound quality is also absolutely top notch.
