You're right with this. We had such a table in the past. We'll bring it back to the website._leras wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 1:27 amThanks, useful link. So Icarus is basically true stereo. I guess Electra might be able to do something along those lines by panning layers.zvenx wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 1:09 am I have all of Tone2 synths...Even before this came out, for my taste, Icarus was by far the best sounding of them all.
Icarus 3 didn't change that for me.
Features aren't my thing though, so especially with Tone2 stuff I am strictly presets.

I have to say I find the Tone 2 line up a bit confusing. Hard to really know the differences between them.
A feature comparison table could be really useful.

What a strange argument saying Avenger has even less value with upgrade.briefcasemanx wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 4:36 am Avenger sounds like plastic awful garbage, and has an even worse value for its upgrade price. My guess is that people who put Sausage Fattener and OTT all over every channel love how Avenger sounds. Or that guy who was arguing with me that a clipper should go on every single track in your mix.
I'll take a limited mod matrix over Avenger's sound every day of the week. Although it seems curious from a programming standpoint that the mod matrix wouldn't be extensible. If it's a CPU issue just have a separate "High CPU" mode for those of us with strong machines that absolutely do not care about CPU usage.
No other synth has ever been that optimized with high quality additions.
You want a preset machine?
Well, then Avenger gives you mainly for edm and a little disco and film music. But with regard to the almost endless options you have creating your own sounds, there is no other synth even similar.
People obviously have different ears, imo the Icarus sounds are rather weak or thin sounding, but better than pigments (I know they are different synths, but both of them do sound)
Avenger is a-dream-come-true synth not only for the dev.

As Markus said, Icarus and other synthesizers that Tone 2 produces are for lifetime use, meaning that having the license key purchased you can use it in 10+ years, for example. But Avenger VPS is limited to mandatory renewal or authentication every 90 days! This means that it will not open from any project in which you have saved it if you don't re-license it. If you don't remember the password, have a nice day! You will not be able to move forward with your project. If Avanger were to go out of business [ it can happen ] or Manuel were to die [ it can happen ], all your sounds, projects and songs will go to the grave with him. Just like that, even if you don't like to hear it, it's possible. In terms of sound quality I do NOT find it to have a "plastic awful garbage" sound. It has very deep editing capabilities and huge sounds, digital and analog. The variety of Expansions and quality far surpasses that of Icarus as these have never been updated and there are NO new Expansions for Icarus version 3, yet. However, I agree that the final sound of Icarus shines and has a power that VPS Avenger 2 does not have. Two beasts, but ICARUS wins in the territory of editing and 'crazy' electronic sounds it can create and in the 'sonic presence and personality' that Avenger does NOT have! Hopefully version 3.5 will bring improvements to incorporate a state of the art sampler and full Granular synthesis!!!

Icarus is NOT weak, it sounds like a continuation of the early Ensoniq and Waldorf synths. It has a sound that can be silky and smooth but also rough and gritty.DCrown wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 9:25 amWhat a strange argument saying Avenger has even less value with upgrade.briefcasemanx wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 4:36 am Avenger sounds like plastic awful garbage, and has an even worse value for its upgrade price. 3.0 is the last major upgrade. All plugins will only have minor updates in the future. Get Falcon instead for those features.Chipi wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 5:00 pmHopefully version 3.5 will bring improvements to incorporate a state of the art sampler and full Granular synthesis!!!DCrown wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 9:25 amWhat a strange argument saying Avenger has even less value with upgrade.briefcasemanx wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 4:36 am Avenger sounds like plastic awful garbage, and has an even worse value for its upgrade price. I have no idea what you're talking about with half of this, talking about presets or whatever. It's seems like you like the "sausage fattener" sound. It's an awful and over hyped sound, but good for you, keep trying to sound like everyone else.DCrown wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 9:25 amWhat a strange argument saying Avenger has even less value with upgrade.briefcasemanx wrote: Sun Apr 07, 2024 4:36 am Avenger sounds like plastic awful garbage, and has an even worse value for its upgrade price. I wouldn't be too sure that one will still
be able to use Icarus in 10 years.
Devs make new decisions, devs will also die one day. And that's with every software of small companies. If Arturia or Waves lost two or three people, they still would keep on developing new plugins.
There obviously won't be Icarus 4 or 5,
Avenger 3 and 4 is more likely to be released in future.
Manuel will die one day, yes! And you really think has no plan B if it will happen, Manuel knowing so many people in music business and Manuel is not doing it alone anyway.
You just have to login in Avenger plugin manager (V-Manager) from time to time and it's like re-authentification each time, you do it anyway for downloading updates.
You forget the password?
Guess what you could do, just guess?! Omg
@briefcase...
I make Avenger sound whatever I want it to sound. Avenger is not just a synth, it's also a drum machine.
Don't use Avenger, if you don't like it, simple as that, Icarus also has its place, of course, but Avenger is the perfect sound design tool for me and also effect quality is another high level.

This is the Icarus announcement thread. Perhaps the Avenger talk can stay in an Avenger thread... or if you want to do comparisons, you can make the thread for that. Thx...DCrown wrote: Mon Apr 08, 2024 3:59 am

Isn't it allowed to compare products any more? Just refering to other threads, well, maybe the first thread you have joined..!?

There's is an Avenger thread, isn't there?
As you can see I posted in Avenger thread some minutes ago, because in this thread there has been enough said about Avenger and obviously there are people who like Icarus, some like Avenger, some...
That's how life is.
Again: it was not me who mentioned Avenger first. Behave, your posts are not contributing to discussions about software, have fun with Icarus.
