hey,

my budget allows me to either buy MacBook Air with 16 GB 500 HD or MacBook M2 with 16 GB and 256 HD (will buy external HD). I run logic pro with a few 3rd party Synths and use some older Synths like Dune 1 currently with Rosetta on my current M1. will this still work on M2?

what's your suggestions?

Why do you need to upgrade from the M1 you already own?
Why not just buy an external HD for that?

I ask because I have an M1 Macbook Air and have literally never ran into an issue with it, as far as power goes.

Everyone's situation is different, but if you're not doing crazy CPU intensive stuff, not sure what the point of upgrading from M1 is. fwiw Dune 3 is awesome.

My current M1 ran into hardware failures and screen broke and its 4 years old now so need to replace it

It seems that the M2 MBA has generally enough power for music production. But this depends of course.
There is even the M3 MBA which supports 2 external screens if that's interesting for you, but it's a little more expensive.

Here is a review about the M2 MBA, maybe it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8NnPmK2MZo

M2 has a problem with 256GB drives. Get a 512GB internal or more if you're going to get an M2.

try to avoid a 256SSD. Anyway on the M2s !

i´d try to go for a M3.

I will go for Macbook Air M3 15 gb, 512 gb drive.

Any known issues or compatibility problems with popular virtual instruments on M3? Or any workarounds?
