I can't imagine there's a 'one size fits all' solution ...is there? I mean what if you're recording all acoustic instruments ? as opposed to all VST synths ?

Softube Bus Processor could be a candidate.

New favorite is Arturia Diode 609. It works with minimal effort.

Yeah I hate the word "glue" in this context. Plus these days too many people are just throwing it around like the buzzword it is without really knowing what it really means or entails.

Personally I prefer the word "cohesion"

I'm always using GRIP https://www.kvraudio.com/product/grip-v ... -cfa-sound For all my mixes.
I use the "clean glue" preset which works on pretty much anything I throw at it.

It is sometimes on sale at PB, I thought it seemed better when a bit of dry signal was let through. I demoed it in the past years.

Maybe, parrallel compression and saturation for glue?
