How to find that last 10-15% 'commercial' sound fully ITB?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

i can only assume this is made from unicorn horn for the knobs?
:ud:

I actually heard that Ricky recorded all of his vox while inside an actual box, which is why they can say it was all ITB- but Ricky won’t fess up to it.

Sarcasm. The ad hominem tactic of anyone without any proper arguments.
"he's using knobs made of unicorn. Haha he's inside a box". Jeez. It got old 10 years ago. You all claim to be so high and mighty calling everyone out as soon as they say something you don't like.

But you're hypocrites using the same tactics and the same fallacies you accuse they of using - against them. Oh the irony of this place. Almost enough to write a book about. Vurt, you'll be the main star.

Voodoo, help us understand you a little better. You are at least persistent and I don't want to dismiss you as a troll. Post a couple of songs that you have produced and list the outboard gear you used and how you have exploited it. Maybe you've got a point. If so, it should show up in your work. Maybe there is something in your sound that you are chasing and have found a special recipe. I am open to that possibility. I don't know who you are. You could be a leading producer and maybe I and others should listen to what you are saying.

VOODOO U wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2024 4:26 pm So you guys actually believe that ricky's vocals and the instrumentation were recorded direct into the interface.
Yeah. Sure. A major artist siged to a major label and they did not use hardware processors. They did not utilize a billion dollar mixing channel. No way.
They just plugged ole ricky direct into the interface. Riiiiiiight.

you might get sued if you name it after me :)
(not by me, id be honoured)

also it was a joke, a billion dollar channel, would be expensive, even by pro audio standards.
even pdiddy doesn't have a billion dollar mixing channel!!!!

All producers use monitoring speakers and/or headphones, which are analog devices. Hence it is impossible to produce completely ITB.

QED

i knew he was going to do exactly the weasel move he pulled. it was too obvious.

but it does lead us now, to the fact mixing can be done itb, and earlier it was claimed that if the track had been done itb additional processing would make it good enough.

analog music + digital processing = commercial
digital music + analog processing = commercial
but
digital music + digital processing ≠ commercial
?
Just because people are unwilling to play certain games does not make them weasels and "pulling moves".
when people continually move goalposts, they are pulling moves.
Moving goalposts, ad hominem, appeal to authority, confirmation bias, straw men, Bla bla bla. How about just talking about it instead of using mechanical argumentative fallacies and tactics?
Because it's an utterly pointless exercise in futility, that anyone without some overly romanticized quirky gear fetish/bias or apparent neurodivergent disdain of same, could give a flyingratsass about.

This thread should have ended with a concession from the hardware only fans after Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? album was mentioned. It won a Grammy for Best Album in 2019, and frankly, it sounds great.

While true it was recorded with a UAD Apollo and UAD powered plugins, they’re releasing native versions of them, and it’s well known that many competitors have made equally good native options.

Can bad sounding tracks me made ITB? Of course. Can bad sounding songs be made with the best hardware? You bet. I’m reminded by a certain ex KVR member who owned piles of awesome guitar gear and talked a great game. One day he posted a track he made and I literally thought it was a joke. It was so bad. He would have done better with NAM and a $100 audio interface.

Good gear can’t save you if you don’t know what you’re doing. Software can’t save you if you don’t know what you’re doing. Ultimately, a great song can save a poor recording, but a great recording can’t save a bad song.
